Chances for ED NYU - CAS!

I visited NYU last October and fell completely in love with the school. Since then, I've made three trips back to NYU! It's the only school I can see myself being 100% happy at; my heart is completely set on it. What are my chances for early decision going into CAS? (I'm going to be a senior this year, hoping to join NYU's class of 2015.)

Connections:
My uncle is a part-time law professor; he works full-time as a federal judge and recently hired the dean's son as a law clerk. He knows the dean and is going to write me a letter.
The same uncle went to law school at NYU.
My grandfather was an NYU undergrad.
My dad did one year of NYU grad school, then transferred to McGill.

I have three fantastic recommendations. I haven't written my essay yet, but I'm planning on writing it about my two summer internships and what I've learned and can bring to NYU.

I'm planning on double majoring in Journalism and History.

What do you think? My guidance counselor says my chances are good, but I'm a little worried about my grades. Do I have enough of a "wow factor" to be admitted?

Thanks!
Hannah

Because you are applying ED, and you have average stats and ECs I think your chance is 50/50. That’s just me though. Good luck! My only advice is to get a really good GPA in your first semester of senior year. Then if you get deferred, you will have a good chance at the RD admissions.

Also, what is your class rank?

Kellian - My school doesn’t rank, but I’m guessing I’m probably in the top 15%. I go to an extremely competitive school, which makes it tough!

NYU applicants from my high school:
Class Applied Admitted Enrolled
2010 20 7 3
2009 24 13 5
2008 20 6 2
2007 18 9 6
2006 21 12 5

Of the 2006 - 2010 applicants, 75% of the ED applicants were admitted. (Versus 42% of RD applicants.)

At the moment I’d say you’re about 80/20 for ED. You’re GPA and course rigor slightly weaken the application but you’ve got some great ECs and you’re above the average x/1600 SAT score. My advice is to make sure you don’t rush your application essays and don’t collapse to senioritis too early.
