Chances for ED to Wharton?

Hey guys, first time poster here. Wharton is definitely on the top of my list for colleges and I really think I'll like it if I get in. I'm strongly considering ED'ing to Wharton, the only thing holding me back is the lack of options financially if I'm accepted. But in any case, I was wondering if any of you guys could give me some feedback for my chances if I do decide to ED? Here's a basic rundown of my stats

Thanks for reading, and I will definitely appreciate any feedback you guys give! :]

Your scores are baller and the ECs look good. Write some rockin’ essays and get some good teacher recs. As for the ED/RD thing, I don’t really know. If financial aid is a problem, I’d opt for RD. If you’re meant to get in, you’ll get in regardless of ED/RD, in my opinion.

Thanks for your kind words. Yeah right now the big thing is writing solid essays and I have a pretty good idea of the kind of recs I’ll get. I guess I’ll talk over the ED/RD issue with some people to get a feel for what the pros and cons are.

Well how badly do you need financial aid? Wharton is expensive but the education is very rewarding. As far as your chances you are academically perfect. It’s people like you that make me worried about my chances at Wharton ED:) Your EC’s pretty good and show good leadership. Overall you have a very good shot at Wharton ED; RD acceptance percentage is markedly lower but you’re certainly very competitive. But seriously consider your financial situation before applying ED…the last thing you want is to finish your undegrad and be buried in student loans. If your financial situation forces you to apply RD, write solid essays get the best recs possible and I’m sure you’ll be just fine. Good luck…although you probably won’t need it :)

Haha thanks for the feedback runi. I won’t come out buried in loans I think but my parents would prefer that I have the chance to compare different offers. But if I ED I can get the stress out of the way for the rest of senior year hah.

I am also applying early decision to Wharton…and let me tell you, your chances of getting in are about 5 times greater than mine! being 1 out of 1400 is extremely impressive. Furthermore, you demonstrated interest in business (FBLA) will serve you well in your application. My only question is…where did you find the time?

Awesome job!! and good luck!!

Haha thank you very much HDM. I’m sure you have great chances as well! To answer your question, it just comes down to time management I guess. Getting things done and budgeting your time so that you can participate in lots of different things while still having time to hang out with your friends, that’s so important. Thanks for reading and best of luck to you as well!

1400 students in a graduating class? Everything IS bigger in Texas, literally.

Haha yeah we’re supposed to have one of the largest graduating classes in the country or something. I guess I’ve always been used to large schools, I can’t even begin to imagine a school with only like 250 people in your graduating class.

wow. totally jealous of your scores.

Penn’s aid is significantly worse than the top tier Ivies, and I would suggest applying RD and hoping you get into one of them as well. You have a good shot at any school, so it’s not like your only hope is ED. That way, you can get a financial aid offer from one or more of HYPS and Penn will have to match it. I did this in April, and Penn had to match Yale’s much better aid offer and it saved me tens of thousands of dollars. Just an idea.

Penn has to match aid offers? Really? I didn’t know that.

They aren’t required to but their policy is to make the best effort they can to match need based financial aid offers, they won’t match merit scholarships or anything

That’s interesting. So if they know you want to go to Penn but they’re aid offer is less than that of another school, they’ll possibly up their aid? That’s really helpful.

As a current member I am fairly optimistic of your chances RD into the Class of 13. If you need aid why do you want to go ED? If you get in then, which I think you will, then you can shove the aid offers from HYP (which I can tell you will be larger than Penn) in their faces and save money!

Edit: Class of 15

Haha thank you for your optimism. I don’t know, I guess now I’m leaning towards RD. Hopefully I can get into a HYP and get a better aid offer

If you don’t get in, I’m screwed. Those are some pretty badass academic stats and ECs. I honestly think you could have a chance at a HYPSM sweep, but if you get in ED at Wharton, you can’t try to do that anymore.

you have really good scores.

But your EC’s are stereotypical (music, quiz bowl, class president) You must try to stand out. Accentuate the internships(that is more unique). We cant have a hundred class presidents, it’s just no fun.

Forget the scores; ranked 1 out of 1400 is friggin’ beast.
