Chances for engineering

Yeah yeah yeah, another "one of those" threads.

GPA: 3.85, top 9-11%, not sure.

Hardest possible courseload except for not taking an AP language. Instead, I'm currently taking spanish, latin and french.

7 APs

Test scores:

SAT: 2250- 800 math, 760 writing, 690 reading

SAT IIs: 800 physics, 800 math II, 720 bio, 680 chem, 580 world history (don't ask). the Physics and Math II are both from this past year, the other 3 are all from freshman/sophomore year, where I didn't take the AP class for the test.

ACT: 34

I'm pretty sure my common app essay will be good, not too sure about the Rice one. I should have two good teacher recommendations, and a supplemental one from a Columbia physics professor.

ECs:
Art/ community service club
working at kohl's 18 hr/wk
volunteering at a soup kitchen in the Bronx
captain of the school robotics team
Columbia Science Honors Program-taking computer chemistry classes at Columbia on Saturdays
Officer of Saferides
Participated in a robotics program at UPenn over the summer- won 1st place in the final building competition
National Honor Society
National Honor roll

Anyone? 10 Chars.

You work at Kohl's!? That is basically the best place ever, no joke.

Anyways, you sound like you have a pretty good chance, moreso if you are out-of-state. I don't know; I'm not too good at chances. But you work at Kohl's, so I had to reply. :D

Haha, yeah. It's a decent job, kinda boring though. Out of staters have a better chance at Rice? I'm from New York, and I was unaware of this. That's pretty cool, if true.

Well, if you ask them, they'll say no... but they really do want to keep their out-of-state numbers up so they can keep their "national university" reputation strong. Plus the whole diversity thing - they're 50% Texan or something like that. I mean, I don't think it would make or break an application, but it's often a nice perk.
