Chances for Exeter/Andover?

Hi, I’m applying for 10th grade at Andover, Exeter, and possibly some other boarding schools as well.

I am white, middle class, and live in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon). I had all A’s (except for one B) in 8th, and have all A’s in 9th grade so far. 2 of my classes are advanced, (IB) and the rest are normal. My grade 7 grades were unfortunately quite bad, lots of B’s, maybe even a C. Lots of anxiety issues caused this dip in grades, and I’m sure I could at least make a good attempt to explain it. My teachers all like me a lot, and I also attended Exeter Summer in 8th grade, which was amazing.

I have done track and field for a while now, 3 years and am no track star, but good nonetheless. I have also done speech and debate for 2 years, and am really good. I also serve a minor position on the freshman student council. My main passion is history, which I am knowledgeable and educated well on, and would hope to improve my history skills more at boarding school. At Exeter summer I did a history course, and really liked it. (PS. I’ve also played guitar for about 6 years so far, and play non competitive tennis)

@Joduscus31 - It is great to know that your 9th grade year is going well, but may I ask why you are limiting yourself to only those 2 schools? Your summer experience at Exeter may have been motivating and given you a positive takeaway for the boarding school experience…however, attending PEA/PA as a full-time student in a highly competitive environment may be very different than the summer experience. Also, I worry @ what you shared above with having previously experienced anxiety and a subsequent impact on grades. Given your stated history, I am not sure why you are not also looking at other schools. There are so many excellent schools that offer FA (you stated that you need this)…I hope that you and your parents will consider looking at a wider variety of schools.
