Chances for getting into McGill Law School?

Hey guys,
I’m currently a senior at Northeastern University in Boston, MA, USA hoping to go to McGill Law next fall.

I will be completing a double-bachelor’s degree in Philosophy (BS) and Political Science (BS) in this upcoming December.

My current GPA is a 3.824 but I will likely be at a 3.83 by the time my application is sent to the school.

I speak French fairly well, I’ve also studied abroad at Meiji University in Tokyo, Japan and at Sciences Po in Paris, France. additionally, I’ve worked at a law firm for over a year and a half and have strong recommendation letters.

I am involved in my school’s international relations council, I’ve competed in Model UN, NATO, and Arab League conferences in Washington, DC and in Montréal, QC.

Anyone who is familiar with McGill law mind telling me my chances?

I am a McGill alumnus, Desautels not Law though. I assume you are aware that McGill Law is a bilingual school, a passive knowledge of French is required. It is also a double degree program in civil and common law. Classroom discussion will switch from English to French and back to English at random. You will likely be interviewed in French. The LSAT is not required but if you take it you must submit the score.

You seem to have good pre-Law activities. Graduates of Canadian law schools are only eligible to sit for the bar exam in MA and NY if you plan to practice in the US. McGill’s transsystemic law program will prepare you to practice in many countries.

I am aware of the bilingual status of McGill and I believe that I am ready for the challenge. As of now, I plan to study in Canada, specifically Quebec, and I hope to live there permanently.

I’m not taking the LSAT for this application because I was told by an admissions officer that it bears the potential to help (or hurt) your academic profile and if you’re well above the GPA standard for the law faculty, then it’s best not to take it. I’m hoping that my language ability, employment history, travel status, and ECs along with my GPA will be enough to gain acceptance.

Your GPA and resume look good. Assuming that you are not Canadian, that is also a plus. You would contribute to the international aspect of the school. I knew one American law student at McGill when I was there. He had no family connection to Canada but had minored in French as an undergrad at the University of Maryland. Other students were amazed that an American could speak French! He was also a member of the McGill Republican Club. It was a small group and actually had a few Canadian members.

Yes I am an American! I’m glad that that is a plus! I will definitely plan to be involved on campus assuming that I am accepted.

Any other insight that you have for me would be appreciated!
