Chances for Grinnell, Whitman, Colorado College. I will rate back!

I am applying to others as well but I am fairly likely to get in.

GPA: 3.89 UW 4.09 W
(I also took math and spanish at my high school in 8th grade that are included on my transcript)
Rank: Top 5% Weighted. Around 15% unweighted I think?? My school is a large fairly competitive public school.
ACT: 29 on two separate occasions. Super scored a 31. Waiting for results back from october one but doubtful they will be better. Counselor is addressing this as I have ADHD.

Slightly alternative senior year: I am taking a class at Reed College that takes up a lot of my time. The program is very hard to get into as a high schooler. I am taking a college class, with the same rigor everyone expects of Reed. Besides that I have AP English, Ap Stat, Ap art, symphonic band, and elementary helper (working with first graders at nearby school).
I am afraid colleges will look at this as a weak schedule even though it is way more rigorous than taking all APs would be in my opinion. When I did my interviews for these schools, both Grinnell and Whitman said it was excellent and wouldn't hurt me. CC guy seemed impressed but didn't fully understand why I didn't have more classes.

ECs: 2 sport varsity athlete: lacrosse and soccer. I was a captain for soccer this year and I have league recognition. I was an all american for lacrosse last year. I have had my photographs displayed at many local galleries. I lead drum line and started a percussion ensemble. My main service one is working for an organization to teach ecology and environmental science to 6th graders. I also volunteer at an arts kids camp. I was an exchange student for a month this summer and got a 4 on the AP exam sophomore year.

Letters of rec: Most likely great from my chem and art teacher.

Financial aid: Going to need quite a bit. Could hurt chances at CC. Last year our EFC was 16k or so when my sister first entered college. Probably even going down for this year and also two kids in school.

Essay: On getting diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. hopefully unique although I am struggling with the ending

Extra info: White, female, obviously from Portland. Applying EA to CC and regular to the others. Interviewed in OR for all three. Haven't visited any but will be visiting Whitman before I apply.

Thanks and I will rate you also!

Bump…

You look good for getting admitted to all of these schools. Verify this by checking out the Common Data Set for each school (google it) and compare your stats to those of the admitted students in Section C. If one of these is your first choice, make that clear in your supplemental essay. Demonstrated interest matters at these schools.

These are three of my top choices as well! Your ACT is in range, but keep in mind the CC has that alternative testing policy, not sure if your AP scores are any good, but it could be worth checking out. 31 is not a bad score, though. I am also concerned about CC’s financial aid, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. You have very good chances at these schools. Best of luck!

By the way, how are you liking Reed? I was on the fence as to whether or not I should apply. I also think that these colleges should understand what a rigorous school it is and will certainly take that into account.

I really like reed actually and would definitely consider it. There are a few things I don’t like such as large science classes. It also does not have very much diversity, especially socioeconomic which I don’t like. However a lot of the students are great and I really like my professor. It would be a great school for me except I want to go out and explore if that makes sense. Also my act is 29 basically since these schools don’t superstore. For cc I am submitting 29 math 32 English 34 reading or possibly 10 essay or 4 on Spanish though probably not enough time for that now. If certain scores go up from the october date I will submit those. What do you recommend? I can chance you also!

Bump…

I think those scores will be good enough. If your counselor is mentioning that you have ADHD, they’ll probably weigh them less. Where else are you applying?

I’ve been under the impression that most schools superscore. Am I wrong?

Most schools super score the SAT. Basically none super score the ACT which really sucks for people like me. I think the test piece should really be fully addressed. At least my counselor said she would.

I am also applying to Willamette, Earlham, College of Idaho, and maybe U of O honors or Western Washington for affordable safeties. I might apply to Reed, Macalester, Pitzer. I would say the ones I will have more difficulty getting into and that I have a huge interest in are in the title though.

Bump…

I think that if you want a lot of financial aid, you should retake the act and try to get at least a 32. Answer mine please?

I am waiting for October scores and I will probably sign up for the December one. I am simply not a good test taker and have already studied a lot. A 32 isn’t too feasible for me.

Surprise I just got my scores and my ACT is a 30 now! I am probably still going to retake in December to really try for a 31. That is my goal. Does this improve my chances at getting in?

Bump…

BUMP… I will chance back!

Anyone? Please help!

Grinnell- high match
Whitman- low match
Colorado College- high match/low reach

Please chance me back at “Low gpa high sat”.

Also if you could do it for reed that would be awesome. I am taking a class there as I said before.

Bump…

No need to bump, you’ve got a good chance at all of these schools.
