~I was interested in science and maybe even medicine, but I do not like math and it does not like me :) After thinking about it I realized that I can do something I always loved and never thought was an option: study cultures and languages! :) (This is why there was a somewhat sudden change from science-based ECs to politics/IR ones)

Thanks!!

Also, I played the clarinet for 5-6 years in the school’s band (2 years in orchestra), and am currently teaching myself how to play guitar. (just to add in)

I took a practice ACT English (summer’s been so busy, I haven’t had time to take the rest of the practice tests), and got a 32 w/o any prep. Will post the rest of the practice scores when I get them.

…bump…

…bump…

anyone?

bump 10char

First, it is a bit early to be evaluating your prospects, but I do note the following:
Figure out your UNweighted GPA using only academic subjects. Listing A+ in gym is silly, and just makes a long post even longer. (Similarly, it’s not clear what “Special Intergrated” or “Integrated” mean. If they are not regular academic subjects, drop them out of the description and your GPA calculation.)
A combined 1790 is a weak score for GU SFS. Also, when you re-take the SAT this fall and post your new scores, give the breakdown by subject.
Any SAT Subject Test scores?
Finally, with respect to ECs, it’s clear you have a wide breadth of them, but it’s not about “THe List.” Top schools like GU care about leaders, not joiners; so if you are a real leader in some of those ECs, make that clear.
Good luck!

^Thanks for replying. To clarify what you mentioned:

Special/Integrated classes listed for 9th and 10th grade are math courses. My school uses the Integrated system, rather than just Geometry, Algebra, etc… “Special” means the more advanced class.

GPA:::I didn’t know what the difference was between Un- and weighted GPA. Thanks  Just wondering for this, I’ve seen other posters leave electives in if they were real electives, not blow off ones, or if they were related…or was that just overkill? :)

SAT:::I know that the SAT scores are bad :|. That was without studying–and, to be honest, I skipped the passage parts (it was a practice test)-- and since I’m not going on vacation this summer, I’m studying as often as possible for this and the ACT. I was advised by one of the guidance councilors at my HS (she wasn’t mine, though) that I should wait until early in my senior year to take SAT IIs…??

LEADERSHIP:::So far, I’m definitely going to be politics editor next year, and am planning on applying for managing/executive editor in 12th grade. Our elections for leadership positions in our clubs are in September…I’ll definitely be running for positions in Spanish/Science clubs, and SHS in 12th grade.

…bump…

I would recommend taking the SAT Subject Tests in the spring at the end of the respective course: so you might take Math I or II, plus the appropriate science or history course, at the end of junior year. The only one I’d wait on is if you were taking the English Lit, or possibly a language, but you might find that the fall of senior year gets pretty busy (and stressful) dealing with applications.
