Chances at GU (class of 2022)

I’ve posted my stats in every possible GU thread on this website, but Georgetown is my dream school and I want to get a good idea of where I stand in terms of stats and ECs!

Name of Georgetown school you are applying to and major: SFS, either Political Science, International Politics, or Public Policy related

Objective

SAT I (breakdown): 1430 (720 reading and writing, 710 Math) I’m not super proud of this score but I know Georgetown doesn’t have score choice. I’m definitely focusing on the ACT though
ACT (breakdown): 34 C(33 Math, 36 Reading, 36 English, 32 Science)
SAT II: 750 Math 2, 710 Bio M, 640 USH (taking again!) I will also take the Literature test and try Math 2 again
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.421
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 2%, 7/425
AP (place score in parenthesis): AP World History (5), AP Human Geography (5), AP Psychology (5), AP Literature (5), AP USH (5), AP Calc AB (5)
IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
Senior Year Courseload: All AP Classes- AP Literature, AP Gov, AP Stat, AP Chem, APES, AP Calc AB
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): The College of William and Mary Leadership Award (I won this at my public high school as well as the specialized math&science governors school I attend)

Subjective

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): City-wide Writing Enrichment Program for Middle School Students (co-founder and President), Student Government (Sprit Chair and Secretary), Key Club (Editor), Yearbook (Business Manager), Club Soccer 8 years (Captain on multiple teams), JV Soccer Captain for 2 years, City Youth Services Citizens Board (1 of 2 youth representatives on the Board), Student Advisory Council at my Governor’s School, NHS
Job/Work Experience: Summer Babysitting (roughly 12 hours /week)
Volunteer/Community Service: Over 45+ hours per year for NHS- over 45 hours at my local Science Museum, other various service projects for Key Club and SGA
Summer Activities: None other than monthly meetings for the Youth Services Board that I am on. I also spend summers planning for the writing enrichment program

Essays: Haven’t started yet, but for the Why Georgetown Essay I’m planning to write about how my specific interests mesh well with Georgetown and DC
Teacher Recommendation: I haven’t gotten them yet but they will presumably be strong, one from my teacher advisor for the club I started who likes me a lot, another from my AP Calculus teacher who also really likes me (I got an A in her class and a 5 on the exam) and who historically writes good recs
Counselor Rec: Ok, it will be from a brand new counselor since my old one retired
Additional Rec: Hoping to get one from the vice mayor of my city who is also the head of the Youth Services Board
Interview: haven’t gotten one yet
Other

Applying for Financial Aid?: yes
State (if domestic applicant): VA
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: F
Income Bracket: ~150? I’m not sure but I’ll be applying for aid
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Maybe my involvement with the city board?

Georgetown is definitely my top choice after touring (and falling in love) so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I know my SAT II scores are fairly low so I’m going to retake and hope to improve. I’ll also be retaking the ACT hopefully to get a 35 unless any of you recommend otherwise. Thanks!

I got into SFS and you have better ACT scores and more impressive ECs than I had. I wouldn’t stress over subject tests. Georgetown cares if you have done 3; 2 of mine were 770s and literature was 640. Georgetown makes you report all of your scores for all standardized tests instead of subject tests. I do not see the point of taking a subject test multiple times. SFS likes to see an interest in foriegn affairs/politics. Good luck.

Scores are pretty standard. Like the previous poster said, it’ll help if you raise your ACT and subject scores, but they aren’t critical. Since you don’t seem to have many ECs focused on IR or politics, I would use at least one of your essays to talk about your experience with that city writing enrichment thing, since Georgetown does really like to see an interest in IR or politics, and I can’t see that at a glance with your application.
