Chances for Harvard, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Standford, and Princeton?

“Also had a summer research internship at Stanford.”

Whew. At least I know you can spell your schools correctly.

Setting sarcasm aside, I give you these results:

Harvard - Reach
Yale - Reach
Johns Hopkins - possible / reach
Stanford - Reach
Princeton - Reach

What are your chances? You have the credentials and the accolades that match the caliber of those of almost every other applicant in the pool. However, you just don’t come across as interesting. I’m not insulting you, and I’m not saying you’re boring, but I am giving you honest feedback on the way you’ve presented your credentials.

Make yourself memorable. Give these colleges a good reason to want you.

Get your mentor from your internship at Stanford to write a letter to the admissions office, and you will have a good shot. Other than that, yours chances will be reaches / crapshoots (as with all good applicants). JHU non-BME is closer to high match however.

I think the above two posters are underestimating your chances. It’s funny, looking through your app I thought you were asian b/c of stereotypical activities such as piano and math/science focus. In that case, I though it would be tougher for you. But, with your accomplishments in national olympiads with solid, focused ECs, and the fact that you don’t have to compete with stellar math/science asians, I would say you have a good shot at your top schools. JHU shouldn’t be a problem. HYPS will have much tougher competition, but I think you have what it takes to get into at least one.

Still get a letter from your mentor, it will skyrocket your chances.

Thanks guys!
I appreciate the critique, and I will definitely take it into consideration!

I see people saying things all the time like “your ECs are too generic/boring/standard/etc.”

Quite frankly, I don’t think HYPS would be able to fill their classes if the adcoms consisted of people on these boards, for whom he standard of “interesting” seems to be unreasonably high.

EDIT 9:23 PM sp “unreasonable” to “unreasonably”
