Chances for High SAT/Low GPA guy

Okay my GPA is kinda low but thats on its way up but here goes..

Electives not included:

FRESHMAN YEAR (Final Average):

Global History Honors (A+)
Math I (B)
Earth Science (B+)
Honors English (A-)
Spanish 2 (B)

--so that really isnt terrible but I really slip up in 10th grade---

10th GRADE (Final Average):

AP European History (A) -1 of the hardest classes at my school
Math II (C)- (!!!!)
Biology (B)
Honors English 10 (B)
Spanish (B-)

With electives I only pulled an 86 (so i suppose a 3.1 my first two years)

This year has been a bit better:
11th GRADE (1st Quarter/2nd Quarter/Midterm)

AP US History (B/B+/B)
Math III (C-/B/C+) (im getting this up now)
Chemistry (A+/A-/A+)
AP English 11 (A+/A-/A+) -i seem to do my best in the hard classes :P
Spanish 4 (B+/B-/B+)

My SAT score is high (740 Verbal, 640 Math, 720 Writing= 2100 first try)
Im going to get a tutor for SAT and see if I can raise my score 100 pts in math

My ECs are very strong; they include a lot of music, a science lab internship, and work on a few political campaigns, as well as national debating

I decided to hunker down and actually put effort my last 3 semesters and be up in the 3.8-4.0 range... will this help me a lot, I had some personal stuff happen in 10th grade with the death of a family member and attempted suicide of another immediate family member but I dont really want to use that as an excuse or address it in my essay.

Im looking at
George Washington- Elliott (IR) -->poor mans GT :P
American University- (IR)
John Hopkins (History)-->I cant get in IR i have legacy/and can maybe a rec from a professor there
Tufts/Georgetown--> I know crack-head dreams
New York University
SUNY Bing --> I live in New York and I got in the 90s on every regents
Boston University

Im a 1st generation american with family from India and the west indies

Forgot to mention SAT IIs = 800 US History, 800 World History, will take Literature and maybe Chemistry

Sorry about the bad news.
I think you'll get in (80%) for BING. Tufts/Georgetown/JHU sounds like reaches but what's important for your case would be teacher rec's/gc rec's and essays. Let your teachers and gc know what happened and why your grades are so low. Best of luck.

What about GW my 1400 M/V SAT will probably manifest itself as a 1450-1500 since Ill prep for the SAT my next time and get a tutor will that help out?

Also wont the grade upturn help, assuming my GPA nears perfection my next couple quarters

take more honors/aps
yes your SAT increase will help a lot. but a 1600 won't make up for a low gpa. i would say GW is a match for you.
What electives are you taking?

Best of Luck

Next year I'll be taking a pretty rigrous courseload, the more challenging my class is the better I do it in :P

Next year I'll be taking either AP Bio or AP Chemistry, Precalc, AP Spanish, AP Government and Economics, and AP English 12.. I might also try to squeeze in AP Statitics if my schedule allows for it.

I take electives like Band, a PE elective and I took a CADD course.. i did well in all of them so I get like 100s in my electives.

I would say I have taken a hard course load for my school if not the hardest.. Im not taking AP Calc or a 2nd AP Science but other then its the hardest courseload possible.

maybe your school has serious grade deflation since you get 800 on sat2 us history but a b in the class
ask your gc to write it

Yeah the thing about that class is a lot of our grade is based on ******** activites and that sort of stuff. I normally do well on the tests, she also grades essays ridiciously hard. Last year AP European history was a more conventional class thats why I aced it and got a 5 on the AP. I dont think my school is known for grade deflation that much.. in APs my school grades very hard but on our transcript i think we might get 1.1 points per ap point (so 85=94) i have to look into that though.

Thanks for all your help though irap3

anytime man

GWU a poor mans GT?

GWU is the most expensive school in the country

A poor mans academically its an expression and I think it was #3 in US News most expensive and #2 in CNNs. I meant that GW is normally where GT rejects end up :P
