Hey guys, i need some adivces from you guys.
I'll be a senior this year.
What are my chances of getting into ivy league schools?
I'm thinking of majoring in chemistry when i go to college.

I'm planning to take my ACT in September,October, and December.
How high schould I get on the ACT? ( higher the better ...duh??? what i'm asking is what score should i get at least to be acceptable)

What other ECs would you recommend?
Who should I ask for the recommendation letters? I need two and here are my options
(english teacher, high school counselor, or college lab professor--who doesn't really know me well, but will be)

Here's a list of information about me

ethnicity: asian
gender:male
state :michigan

My GPA : 3.96 (unweighted)

My ECs are: 500 hours of community service (local hospital)
200 hours of laboratory volunteer (Michigan state univ)

major Awards: Chess state champions in 09 (in state)

What state are you in? What is your ethnicity? Is your class ranked?

michigan, asian, I’m sure it’s top 10%. don’t exactly know. may be top 5%?
one more thing, it’s a pubilc school

Its hard to say what you will need on your ACTs because while your GPA and rank are excellent, your extracurriculars (aside from the chess championship) are unremarkable. You are, after all, an unhooked ORM. So I guess I’m forced to say the “higher the better”, but if you are going to need a 34+ to stand a chance at the Ivies.

I mean, billabongboy has totally hit the spot. However, I feel like your 500 hours of community service at the local hospital and 200 hours of laboratory volunteer at Michigan State U are helpful. Though not incredibly original or outstanding, they do show a commitment to service and research, which is good.
Good work with calc AP during junior year.

Wow, it really sucks being Asian, doesn’t it?

i know my weak spot is the ECs. what should I do now? please offer me somethings that I could possibly do

Look, you’re a rising senior. We’re about to apply; there’s not much you can do anymore to beef up your list. I’m in the same boat as you.
[Math League Contests](http://www.mathleague.com/contests.htm#High_School), maybe? Check it out if you want.

^I agree. The OP only has a few months before his application is due, so that rules out any opportunity of strengthening your ECs.

Focus your time on your ACTs; perhaps you end up proving us wrong.

oh no. although i founded the club and took calc ab, im not good at math… T^T

honestly, i think all these people are being too hard on you. as long as you do decent on your acts, you should be fine. also, write a kickass essay. a lot of colleges have been over-stressing that lately

^ Hey hey, who’s being hard on him? In fact I commended his volunteer work, research work, and the balls to take AB calc junior year.
We were just pointing out that the time has passed for improving your EC list. ace is right; ACTs and essay. Make it work. I’m sure you can. Good luck!

^Agreed. Being realistic is too often misconstrued as being unnecessarily harsh.

Oh please, not the kick ass essay advice again. It is a complete myth that an essay can make up for stats. Without knowing rank and scores, making any comment, much less “you’ll be fine”, is just silly.
