Hi
I am from cincinnati, oh. I attend a small public high school ( about 180)
Class Rank: top 10%
SAT: M790 CR740

Same as everyone else who applies, slim. Admission into m&t is a crapshoot at best. What else would you expect from a program that admits <50 students every year? So, as difficult as it may be, submit the best application you can and try not to worry about it.

There is no way that anyone, aside from the actual committee, can predict acceptance. However, more info would be helpful.

Sorry, i accidentally pressed submit

what are my chances for Jerome Fisher Program for Upenn if i apply ED, and if i apply RD?
Also, what are my chances if i apply to Duke, Northwestern, Harvard, and stanford?

Let me start by saying that the Jerome Fisher program, which admits 55 students anually, has the lowest acceptance rate of any department/program at UPenn. That being said, I believe that you have the grades/test scores to fit the position. However, all of the applicants, or at least the competitive ones, have these outstanding test scores. As I look at your EC's I don't see a lot of leadership. The only thing that qualifies a long list of activities is if you are a leader of several of them. If that isn't the case, the adcom assumes your lacing your application with meaningless activities. I only say this because you're applying opposite people who have founded their own non-profit organizations, and whose parents earn seven or eight figures on wall street. That's the program, and that the kids who get in. Although I don't think its impossible for you to gain acceptance, if you really are interested in Penn, just apply to wharton or the school of engineering seperately. You'll increase your chances drastically.

No offense to the poster above, but a lot of what s/he said is complete bull.

A) Don't worry about leadership activities. Do what you enjoy and the admissions officers will understand/see that.

B) The WORST thing you could do would be to apply to one of the schools individually. Apply to m&t because if you aren't accepted they will automatically forward your application to the school of your choice. So, even if you don't get accepted into the program, you can still be accepted to Wharton or SEAS.

impressive SAT score, im in a similar situation applying to Jerome Fisher
except my SAT CR is about 100pts lower. Do you have any tips for me as to how to improve it? I also need some leadership activities as I am entering Senior year this coming school year

I plan on starting a club

yeah username, I guess the three admissions counselors I asked about how important leadership is were just giving me bull. I don't know what world you live in but applying to Wharton (a business school) demands leaderhip in some way.

First of all, you're conveniently forgetting to address the other point I made about where to apply. Do you now recognize that you were wrong there?

But anyways, you're right. I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to the m&t program. I'm only in it; what would I know?

Just because your in the program doesn't give you any more knowledge about how to get in than any other person. No applicant is the same. If you don't think dedicated EC's helps in the college process, you are living in a different world. Congrats on getting in, I applaud your position.

Thanks everyone!
magnetschool, let me start by saying that when i first took a practice SAT a year ago, i received around a 600 for CR. Hence, it is very possible to increase your CR score. Just do a lot of practice tests, esp. in CR. Also, i personally find reading the passage thoroughly before doing the problems help.
I also have some other questions:
1. If i apply ED to Fisher, and i do not get in, but do get into just the college, or SEAS, or Wharton..., am i still obligated to go?
If yes, is there some way to apply ED "only to Fisher" and if i do not get into fisher, i don't have to go?
2. Does applying ED to Fisher help with admissions to fisher (I know it does in general, but what about specifically fisher?)
3. About how many people per year apply to fisher?
4. Also, how many people already in penn apply for transfer admissions to Fisher at the end of their freshman year? can you only apply after freshman year or can you apply at end of soph. year as well?
5. Lastly, are there any other good schools that offer joint degrees in Business and Engineering?

magnet... I'm pretty sure that starting a club senior year is one of the things that colleges will know is fluff

"Just because your in the program doesn't give you any more knowledge about how to get in than any other person. No applicant is the same. If you don't think dedicated EC's helps in the college process, you are living in a different world. Congrats on getting in, I applaud your position."

Dedicated ECs != leadership positions. There's an important distinction between the two.

check out MITMIT, he got into jerome fisher, if you're curious.

i think it's better if he checked out adriana lima

lukeli88, if you read the application, you'll see that there are several options regarding early decision with respect to Jerome Fisher:

Thanks Halopeno. Regarding my other questions, anyone else like to respond? (see post 4 and 11).

I was accepted to M&T last year. IM me with any questions you have (AmitTLP).

iv4me... I am really interested in M&T... could you, if you don't mind, list your SAT I, SAT II, and APs?

can anyone else assess my chances, and/or answer how many people each year apply to M&T?
