Currently looking at....
Johns Hopkins (first in my list)
UC Berkeley
CMU
Columbia
Duke
Yale

I have a feeling that i'll have near 0 chances but I just want to hear people's opinions

Thank you in advance

What program will you be applying for at those schools?

BME

Berkeley would either be low reach or high match. I guess you’ll get into 2 or 3, at least, out of those five schools in your list.

Columbia, Yale - High Reach (these types of schools are always long shots)
JHU - Reach (JHU BME is much more competitive than the rest of the school)
Duke, UCB - Low reach
CMU - High match

While your IB scores are good, your SAT kinda hurts your chances -and so does being international. If I were you I would look at some safeties. Schools like UC Davis, UCSD, Georgia Tech should be matches/safeties for you.

CU Boulder would be a really nice fall-back school too.

So being international hurts my chances? :frowning:
I though US colleges seek cultural diversity and there’s probably less than 100 New Zealanders applying to US schools each year. I though it would raise my chances.

For US college admissions being international hurts your chances, especially if you’re applying for financial aid. It’s not a dealbreaker, but international acceptance rates are lower than US resident acceptance rates for most (if not all) schools (<a href=“The Truth About Applying to a U.S. University as an International Student | HuffPost College”>HuffPost - Breaking News, U.S. and World News | HuffPost).

bump

@saif235‌ Columbia’s acceptance rate is 7%. Duke’s is 10%. Berkeley’s is 19%.

Is 10% closer to 7% or to 19%?
