chances for journalism

Do I even have a slight prayer: GPA 4.3 ACT 32 great leadership positions, varsity athlete, work experience, ASB, peer counseling, many ECs and community service hours.

Want to major in Journalism

Can’t tell without specifics about the ECs, but you probably have a chance. Also all depends on how you present it on the app

None if you are currently a high school student. Journalism at Berkeley is a master’s degree major.

Ucbalumnus makes a good point. However, as far as admittance to Berkeley L&S for undergrad goes, things look promising.

I’m currently an undergrad at UC Berkeley interested in journalism too. Ucbalumnus is right, there is no undergrad journalism program. Still, the graduate school offers some undergrad classes (I’ve taken 2) and there are media related classes in other departments. There are tons of campus publications to write for; I’m involved with the Daily Cal, which hires writers for all its departments - news, sports, arts and entertainment, opinion, blog - every semester. I also know multiple Daily Cal writers who have interned at the San Francisco Chronicle and other awesome publications.

If print isn’t your thing, CalTV and KALX (the radio station) might be of more interest to you, but I don’t know as much about them.

If you have any more questions let me know, I’d be happy to help you out!
