Chances for Kelley Admission / Freshman

So I had a rough start to IU. Did IFS which was amazing, ended with an A- in the class, which was fine. But since then, everything kinda went downhill.

Took CSCI-C 211 I think is what it's called. I liked computers but never really went into the programming world and just wanted to try it out (also 4 creds extra was a bonus). Turns out it was a tough weed-out course for CS majors, and had a different professor than I thought I would get (a hispanic dude who I couldnt' even understand). Plain and simple, the weekly assignments were impossible without the AI help, and even then I barely managed an 80 for them. OVerall was too much work, and I didnt' enjoy the programming experience anyway, and dropped it for a W.

So basically, my grades will look like this:
Coll-S 105: A-
Math-m 211: B-
Phil-P 105: C (I could rant about the grading system in this class for hours. 3 papers is worth less than a 4 question test, and I always tend to do better on things that require work rather than studying).
CSCI-C 211: W
Hist-H 105: B+

Next semester taking K-201, Finite (m118), Eng w131, another history course, and then an easy 2 credit online course.

If I could score mostly mid A's with maybe a B+ next semester, is there even a chance?

Thanks for reading! ^^

I wouldn’t take finite next semester if I was you.

just my 2 cents

Shouldn’t it be easier than Calc? If it’s more down to earth like the SAT, then I should do fine (770 on the SAT). Also my roommate is taking it now (and K201) so I always have help.

A lot of students find finite more difficult than calculus. It’s not easier/harder. It’s just different.

Do not take finite

No matter how good you think you are at math, finite is a total different beast. Requires a lot of work outside of class if you want to get a B or higher. I have worked my ass off and I am currently sitting at a 82% going into the final. Same with w131. Teachers grade extremely difficult so go to as many office hours as you can and kiss as much ass as possible. I had a 82% going into the final paper so I have my fingers crossed for a B.

You are going to have a tough time getting into Kelley. I was told by a counselor three years ago that if you get one B minus as a freshman, your application is automatically flagged and your chances go down significantly. As for finite - my daughter had a 760 on math on the SAT and thought finite was extremely easy, so with your math ability, you may do just fine. You may have to consider SPEA as a back up to Kelley. It doesn’t hurt to apply to Kelley because you never know, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up considering your first semester grades.
