Chances for Liberal Arts Schools

GPA: 3.1 (I had a really bad freshman year, but there is a considerable upward trend)

SAT I: 1950- 670 Writing, 640 Math, 640 Reading

ACT: 30- 34 Writing, 24 Math, 31 Reading, 30 Science

APs: Have just taken US History, will be taking Euro, Psych, and possibly Government

ECs: Varsity Soccer 3 years, Model UN 3 years, Volunteering at a soup kitchen, service trip to the Dominican Republic

I'm looking at mostly LACs, so chances for Franklin & Marshall, Clark, Dickinson, and Lafayette. Also if you could think of other colleges I could apply to that would be great! Thank you for reading.

You should also check out gettysburg if you are looking at schools similar to it. I personally think you would be a competitive applicant to every one of these schools however the gpa may hurt you depending on how strong the upward trend is. Some of these schools may be reaches but it’s definitely possible!

Thanks for the reply. My GPA at the end of freshman year was a 2.7 with 3 Cs. At the end of sophomore it was 2.9 with no Cs. I know it’s not a massive shift in GPA, but do the letter grades make a difference? I should note that this is unweighted, and that my school has no courses like gym or health, so every grade is in English, math, etc. Also, would taking Latin for 3 years look good on an app compared to say French or Spanish?

I was hesitant to reply because I don’t really think I’m qualified to give advice. I am going though the same process but in my opinion there is a large difference between a b minus and a c+. An upward trend is definitely a good thing. And don’t know if it would make a difference in my opinion I think that they would weigh all languages equally.
