Unfortunately, I think your academic record/test scores are too low for Marist.

[Social Work Program at SUNY Plattsburgh](http://web.plattsburgh.edu/academics/socialwork/)

^because you are “out-of-state” for SUNY, SUNY Plattsburgh may be a little more lenient regarding your GPA.

Middle 50% of
First-Year Students Percent Who
Submitted Scores
SAT Critical Reading: 530 - 620 91%
SAT Math: 540 - 630 91%
SAT Writing: 540 - 630 91%
ACT Composite: 23 - 27 30%

You seem to be on the lower 50% and higher in CR so there are still students lower and higher…I wouldn’t count it out. They did say they like to see the grades get higher and wont count a bad freshman year. If you really like it, you’ll never know if you don’t try.

^wrong or old info. For the class of 2013, the freshman profile is:
GPA: 3.2 to 3.7 (recalculated)
The middle 50% of accepted students averaged
between 3.2and 3.7 for their GPA.

SAT 1: 1730 to 1920
The middle 50% of accepted students scored
between 1730 and 1920 on the SAT.

ACT: 25 to 29
The middle 50% of accepted students scored
between 25 and 29 on the ACT.

His test scores are not high enough to compensate for his low GPA. This OP has an unweighted GPA below 3.0. Remember–Marist re-calculates GPA. If he is interested in Marist, he should consider it a reach school and concentrate more on his safeties.

I got that from collegeboard.com which should be up to date. I still would never tell anyone not to apply somewhere. There are too many times when you don’t know why but they accept one and not the other.
Counting on it is another thing.
I know “chance me” threads are popular, I can see doing it for fun, but what another student, some 16 or 17 know about admissions is about as much as most parents…you don’t know much more than the stats tell you and 25% of students below a certain marker are made up by someone. : ) (glass half full person, obviously)

The freshman profile that I listed in my post is straight from the Marist website. They have become more selective over the past two years and appear to be continuing with the trend.
I’m not telling the OP that he shouldn’t apply. I am saying that his stats (both the test scores and the gpa) do not fit into the 50% mark. The OP’s chances are slim (not null) and the OP may want to focus more on schools that fit his academic profile. A realistic answer to the “chance me” question is: go ahead and apply if you want to but chance of acceptance is slim.
