Chances for Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida

Hi, I am currently a junior white male(i know race plays a role in admissions) at a large high school in South Florida trying to get into Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, Maryland, that tier.
I am 140 in my class out of 1090, about 12%.
I have a 4.8 weighted, 3.6 unweighted, and a 4.0 core.
I am a four year varsity lacrosse member, National Honor Society member, president of Psi Alpha Beta, which is my school's Psychology Honor Society, treasurer for Debbie's Dream Club, a foundation supporting stomach cancer research and I also intern at their offices. I am also a member of the NFL (National Forensic League) for debate. This summer I will be continuing my role in Psychology by working a paying job at Child Provider Specialists, an intensive summer camp for psychologically disabled children.
My standardized tests scores are SAT 680 math, 610 reading, 670 writing, 1960 composite all of which i am disappointed with and am working to raise. My ACT is 31 writing, 28 reading, 25 math, 24 science, 27 composite.
My APs that i will have taken are Psychology, European History, Human Geography, Environmental Science, United States History, English Language and Composition, Government, Economics, and English Literature. I have also dual enrolled with Religion, Sociology, and Total Wellness. Never below a B in any although I received a C in sophomore algebra II, although improving obtaining A's in pre calculus.
Im not sure how direct family has to be for legacy but my mom, dad, both my aunts, and an uncle went here.

Please tell me my chances

Please. Im nervous

Parent of UW freshman here who was waitlisted at Michigan with 3.5 and 29 (30 superscore) and most rigorous curriculum. His weighted gpa would have been 4.3-4.5 if his school weighted, which it didn’t.

After watching two years of admissions cycles at UW, I would say you are likely a “postpone”, with a chance of admission later in the cycle. Can you work on your ACT – a 27 is on the low side for out of state at UW while a 3.6 unweighted (which is what they look at), is right on the fence.

You would probably be waitlisted at Michigan, with likely result that you never get in or are ultimately rejected. Those are just not competitive scores for out of state at Michigan. I am not famliar with Florida.

Take a look at Illinois – if you are in humanities, not engineering, there is a little more latitude for admission, though not a safety school.

University of Iowa and Minnesota Twin Cities are probably matches, and Iowa has the Regents Admission Index where you can plug in your stats and see if you will be admitted (and if you will get merit money, out of state).

I wouldn’t bother submitting ACT, as my SAT is much better.

For UMich, your GPA is below average and SAT is at 25% (ACT is below 25%). So it would be a low reach for you. Wisconsin should be a high match to match for you.

My Michigan essay I feel is very strong, about psychology since I’ve done so much with it in high school

Essays are not going to make up for scores that are on the low end. Michigan is a reach, Wisconsin could go either way. Look elsewhere for safety schools.

Totally agree with Midwestmomofboys. She has very good advice above too. Don’t be fooled by the statistics. You may have GPA at 25% but with good test scores (or the opposite). But when you have both the GPA and scores at or below 25%, I don’t think the essay can help much. In addition, many students submitted both SAT and ACT scores that they may do better in one test than the other just like you. The lower scores will be included in the statistics although it may not be used for admission consideration. With scores at 25%, it does not really mean you are above 25% of admitted students.

Michigan- high match
wisconsin- match
florida- low match-match

chance back?
