Chances for MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Cal Poly Slo, CO school of Mines, and more (?!)

<p>Hey guys. First I'll say that I appreciate you for reading this. Here are my stats thus far (going into senior year)</p>

<p>Ethnicity: White male working on my tan. My family makes good money as both my parents are doctors.
State: Colorado
ACT: 35 C, 36 S, 36 R, 35 M, 32 E. NO WRITING YET (cause stupid school). I retook it with writing but no scores yet. I will say that I think I may have done a little worst as I was sick that day. Though English probably improved nonetheless.
NO SAT I
SAT II: 760 physics, 750 M2 (1st take), 800 M2 (2nd take). I believe I gotta send all my scores correct me if I'm wrong.</p>

<p>GRADES + GPA
GPA: 3.9512 UW, 4.2439 W.
Ranked: 11/262. MIGHT DROP A LITTLE since IB kids at my school get 5.0 for even electives whereas I'm out of 4.0 for Calc 3. Laughable IMO.
Transcript: All A's Sophmore + Junior and probably Senior year. 2 B grades IN MATH freshman year since I was dumb. </p>

<p>APS
9th Grade: AP Human Geo: 4
10th Grade: AP Physics B (self study): 4 , AP Gov: DIDN'T TAKE TEST CAUSE I WAS DUMB. Big regret.
11th Grade: AP Biology: 4 , AP Calculus BC: 5 w/ ab subscore 5 , AP English: 4 ,
AP Physics C Mechanics (self study): 5 , AP Stats: 4 , APUSH: 5. </p>

<p>NOTE: I go to an IB school but didn't do IB (my older brother went so i had too). I HAVE NO CLUE if my counselor will say I took "most rigorous" schedule. She is a freak about IB, so even though I took and self studied many AP classes, she might be stubborn.</p>

<p>Senior Year classes: AP chem (at another HS), Calc 3 (At local college), IB Spanish HL (this is like AP Spanish I think lol idk), AP Lit, Self studying AP Physics C: E+M but that doesn't go on transcript anyways. This is literally the hardest schedule I could have possibly made. </p>

<p>Extra Activities and STUFF
-Volunteer at a store called "Hospice Heirlooms." We raise money for Hospice by selling stuff that nobody needs! I've done this since Sophomore year every Saturday for 4 hours.
-Jazz Band every year except Junior year (that's another rant). Made Hon Jazz Band for the district Freshman year as the piano player.
-Piano Lessons since I was 9. Won "Most Versatile" in the "Creative Pianist Music Festival." Won Nothing the next year.
-Guitar lessons since I was 13. I play for myself. I hate doing competitions. I'm aware this weakens my application but I don't care.
-Went To a classical music camp 2 years (Freshman and Sohpmore). Became too old to go.
-I program a lot (Java and C++ and Javascript). I hope I can send one of my projects in my application. I would like to think I'm pretty good and it shows that I like to learn things.
*I'm putting on a "Walk for Apraxia" to raise money for Apraxia. I have Apraxia (though I feel fine thank you...). My goal is to raise $2,500. The event takes place this February. (Apraxia is a speech disorder. Though I talk just fine...)
-4 Years of Varsity Cross Country.
-Math Tutor Junior-Senior. I am going to start helping middle schoolers at a "challenge program" not suck at math like I use too.
-Probably will do robotics club my senior year. I didn't' do it other years since club leader bullied me. he graduated (thank god)
-I'm a nice guy</p>

<p>PLEASE READ THIS
Alright so I'm for sure applying to MIT, Cal Poly Slo, and CO School of mines. I think I'll apply to Carnegie Mellon too. I plant to major in Computer Engineering or Computer Science. It actually depends on where I go. So some questions.
Where else should I apply?
Where should I apply ED?</p>

<p>and
What are my chances at these schools?</p>

<p>Thanks for reading. Really appreciate it.</p>

<p>-SlashDojo</p>

<p>You have really good statistics and school related stuff. Obviously MIT and Carnegie’s computer science schools will be reaches. But, it will also depend on what you do this summer. If your family can afford it, you should apply to Carnegie Mellon ED just to increase your chances if you want to go there. MIT doesn’t have a ED application, only EA which doesn’t make a huge difference.</p>

<p>Basically: MIT and CMU reaches. Cal Poly and CO School matches</p>

<p>Chance me back?

<p>Thanks for the reply!
Anyone else (Yes, this is a ignorant bump.).</p>

<p>I would say a lot depends on your essays. My son applied to a lot of comp sci reach schools and ended up getting into CMU and not getting into some that had less positive acceptances. There will be people with perfect scores competing with you and I think it’s a matter of luck finding someone who clicks with something in your essay. Fingers crossed!!!</p>

<p>Cal Poly SLO admissions are based 9th, 10th, and 11th grade using CSU GPA. Essays are not required. And an algorithm (for each major) is used for admissions. . High school coursework GPA accounts for a weight between 45% and 55%. Taking additional semesters of required courses results in bonus points (i.e. 100 extra points for 10 semesters of English, 100 extra points for 8 semesters of foreign language, 200 points for 8 semesters of lab, 50 points for 4 semesters of performing arts, 500 bonus points for 4 semesters of advanced math). SAT score accounts for 25% to 35% (not including writing); Work experience and extracurriculars = 1-10% of admission score. If there is an overflow of students that meet the minimum criterion score set by each college, bonus points are awarded for particular qualities of a student. These qualities include: California recently released veteran, Service Area, Partner Schools, Father’s highest education level (not a high school graduate), Mother’s highest education level (not a high school graduate), and School, Faculty or Staff Dependent.</p>

<p>The major you’ve selected is quite competitive. Your GPA/Scores are (obviously) good, but admission will most likely be based upon bonus points. </p>
