that's a lot of school, so how do I cut them down? what I'm looking for in a school:

-mediocre weather
-nice buildings
-good surrounding city with lots to do
-GRADE INFLATION ( easier to get A's than other schools... I know university of Chicago has grade deflation which is horrible)

My stats:
- My fully weighted g.p.a that even weights college summer courses is:
9-11 4.16 W ( Georgetown EA, MIT EA or Univer of Chicago EA)
9-12 4.22 W ( RD applications most of those schools) 3.73 uw
10-11 4.5 W 3.9 uw(princeton ED, uc's) uc g.p.a is 4.2 capped
10-12 4.57 W 3.91 uw ( Stanford )

please keep in mind thisis my FULLY weighted gpa means weighting colleges summer courses taken at uc berkeley as well

SAT 1: 2200
SAT 2: US 770, MATH 2c 790, math 1c 780

HUGE UPWARD TREND IN GRADES!! i have reasons for this

rec's and essays should be good... i'm spending a lot of time on them even now!

EC's:
Dance-Volunteer-10 years

500 hours of comm service... i helped at numerous places for variety

also which schools do you think I should totally cross off my list because I won't even have a slight chance there.. please be honest thanks!

Also i decided to apply to MIT because my major is economics and poli science... would that raise my chances? Late

didn't you already make a thread idential to this one.

What are my chances at most of the elite colleges? I am an ethnic Somali kid (1st gen.) from Minnesota who attends a private school. My resumé:

GPA: 3.1705 (weighted)
All honors except for math in previous years. I am in all AP"S my senior year. AP's are not offered before senior year; only honor courses are. I got a 1720 on the SAT: 550m 600 cr 570 writing. I will be retaking them. I got a 720 on the World History SAT II and I think I'll take Literature in Nov.

Extra curriculars
Debate- all 3 years- Varsity since sophomore year- 6th at state
Speech- all 3 years- second at state junior year- 1st alternate to nationals
Student congress- all 3 years- national qualifier sophomore year
American Legion Boys State- Junior year
Men's Chorale
JV Soccer 9-11 grade (captain junior year)

Sorry- typo the gpa is unweighted

Skymall935:

UCB/UCLA: Match
UCSD: Safe Match
UCI/UCSB: Safety

bump.. thanks flopsy

You realize that Princeton ED and MIT's EA are single choice, meaning you can't apply early anywhere else?

At any rate, with those stats, you'll definitely be in at any UC, and some of the privates too. I wouldn't worry, and would rather focus on applications.

Its pretty sad that you put grade inflation as one of your most important factors. You seem to be focused on the wrong things. Your list of prospective schools also points to this. It appears most were picked on brand name alone.

I doubt that some of those schools, like MIT, have grade inflation....

MIT's EA is not single choice last time I checked, which is why many students apply to MIT and CalTech early.

You have excellent chances at every school on that list, except for some of the super elite Ivys, so just pick the ones you really like. You can start by just applying to UCB or something, since you'd get into all the UC's anyway (assuming you live in CA?).

Yeah, MIT has heavy grade deflation.

wow thanks... this is the most honest critcism i've ever got... any other chances? Btw... how much is eagle scout looked upon? I was in scouts for 10 years and thats pretty much the most and devoted EC i have and probably anyone could have... is this true?

Ok here's why i look for grade inflation... good grades at undergrad and a good school= good chance for good law school : )

bump..................

Cut Hopkins, Chicago (grades) and Dartmouth, Cornell (weather)

k thanks... how cold is cornell really? Like is it much colder than Columbia or Princeton?

Princeton has pretty bad grade deflation. Something like only 20% of people in a class can get A's.

You shouldn't go to UCSD if you want mediocre weather, because they have GREAT weather!

thats weird. only 20 percent of the class get A's? i need proof for this...

then tell me whats the point of going to an ivy league? i heard its easy to graduate from...

Skymall if you want a good school that has good weather and grade inflation I would suggest Stanford. It has all the things you're looking for. As for your chances you have decent chances to all of them even MIT, Pton and Stanford good luck!
