Please tell me my chances at COLUMBIA, CORNELL, BROWN, UCLA, and UCB.

wow. your stats are so similar to mine it's scary. i want to see what people say but for me personally, i think you've got a good chance at UCB and UCLA. columbia, cornell, and brown are reaches.

i think ur GPA is too low also ur ECs don't look that good as well as ur class rank. Idk about UCB and UCLA and their in state policies and how easy/hard it is but Columbia, Cornell, Brown seem like a far reach to me. Also when raising ur SAT raise the M+V sections because they count a lot more than writing.

U have a lot of hopings so not sure if i can judge the whole thing but without it it seems tough. With it idk it's still a reach but less of a reach.

aszx552:

UCLA: Match
UCB: Match

My consulour told me that UC's add some points to their equation to see if a person is qualified for their schools. Because my family makes less than $40,000k a year with 4 dependents in the family and 2 older siblings in college, my consulour told me that they add like 30 points to their equation or something, and I have a better chance at UCLA and UCB. I was wondering if this is the case for Brown, Columbia, and Cornell. Or do you have to write it in your essay for them to know?

I've also heard (based on US News Selectivity Rankings) that UC Berkeley is more selective than Cornell, and Brown is more selective and Columbia, which means it is easier to get into Cornell than UCB, and it easier to get into Columbia than Brown. I'm not sure if stats of in-state or out-of-state admission are factored here.

since you are instate, Cal and UCLA are easier to get into than all of the other schools....btw that USnews selectivity ranking is messed up.

and when you are comparing those schools, their difference in selectivity is neglible...its a crapshoot.

the ucs are lenient to in state-ers. i saw senior stats for a lot of cali seniors and many had worse gpas but still got into berk, etc. i do agree brown, columbia, and cornell are major reaches.

Volunteer hours only count IN HIGH SCHOOL

If the hours only count in high school, does that mean colleges dont care what you did before high school?

^^ Not really. I think the only exceptions are if you did the John Hopkins Youth Talent thing and took the SAT then...
