Basically my friend's an incredible smart slacker. In fact, looking at his acheivments I'd even guess he's one of the most brilliant slacker in the nation.
You guys think caltech will overlook his gpa and accept him based on his math/science prowess?

a good friend of mine who graduated from my school was an ipho gold medalist but he got like C-'s in english because he just didn't care. he got into caltech. so no worries about this fellow.

Yeah but that's a non-science class. My friend gets Bs in AP Stats, Bio, and Chem., because he doesn't or can't do the homework. I think he has some kind of mental block against doing work. His grades are like 4 Bs, 3 As.

If he has a mental block against work, he probably shouldn't come to Caltech... He's going to have to do many hours of biology and chemistry sets here whether he likes it or not.

Most people at Caltech are slackers. If your friend is already a slacker and still manages to get by, perhaps that experience will better prepare him to do okay while slacking at Caltech.

Most people at Caltech feel like slackers, but actually do a ridiculous amount of work without realizing it. I would say Techers tend to be more procrastinators than slackers... Work gets done, it just might be at 4 am the night before.
