The 30 ACT is impressive, but keep in mind that ~5-6% of people with < 3.0 GPA are admitted.

What kind of grade trend did your son have? Do you know the weighted GPA? Or his class rank?

The grade trend is very good, his GPA has gone up literally every semester of HS. I’m not sure what the weighted GPA would be (can someone show me how to calculate this? his HS doesn’t do this apparently), but it would be significantly higher than his regular GPA (B+ in AP American soph year, A in AP Stats jr year, B in AP World jr year).

I know you can’t really judge off of one person, but I got accepted with a 3.0 GPA and 27 ACT. (I’m aware most people with these stats get rejected) He smoked me on the ACT, and considering a good grade trend i’m reasonably confident his chances are pretty good

It could go either way. GPA is at the low end. ACT is really good. I would work hard to improve the GPA. I suspect they will want to see seventh semester grades before making a decision.

I agree with res.
He will most likely get deferred and then if he can get a 3.5+ GPA his first semester of senior year then he will most likely get accepted.

Best of luck to your son :)

Agree-
Keep the grades up Senior year. If he is not accepted immediately, the school will likely ask for mid year report (first semester grades) before sending out the decision.

Your son will be applying with just three AP’s so his weighted GPA will not move up too much. Try to motivate your son to pull his grades up as much as possible now as his Jr year grades may pull his GPA up enough to make him more competitive. Great ACT by the way!!

Good luck.
