Chances for NJ guy??

hey I'm an indian male from a competitive NJ school and i was wondering about my Stanford ED/EA chances. Stanford is my number 1 choice for ED but would it be a waste of my ED? I hear Stanford outright rejects near 60% of its ED applicants, and has bias against the east coast(~50% of students from CA). i dont think Stanford has taken anyone from my school in the past 5 years...although they deferred one...just one...
so with my stats, should i apply to stanford ED or apply somewhere else ED where i have a better chance and just apply to S EA. Thanks for the help

here are my stats:
gpa: 3.8-3.9 uw/ 4.3-4.4 w (school does not rank). took hardest course possible + dropped lunch for 2 years
satI: 1460 m/v. didnt do so hot on the writing...gotta retake it
satIIs. Chem 750, taking Bio and Math IIC this year
APs: taking 3 this year. will take 6 next year
passion: biology and ill probably major in it too

Science Awards:
•1st Place Biochemistry- Jersey Shore Science Fair (JSSF)
•Society of In Vitro Biology special award- Delaware Valley Science Fair
•USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) Semifinalist
oTop 500 biology students in America
•New Jersey Science League: Biology II- currently ranked 2nd in New Jersey
•Presented research at The Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectrography (PittCon 2007) in Chicago, IL. (20,000+ attendants each year, largest biotechnology conference)

Research Experience
•worked at a research institute full time thru 10th summer and will work there 11th summer, and 12th summer. Research will lead to a publication with me listed as a co-author. Mentor considers this graduate level research...i guess thats a plus (problem is the paper might not be out in time for college app season...can i still put this on the app?)
•research as part of Rutgers program during sophomore year

Volunteering
•Received Congressional Gold Medal (500+hrs of public service, personal development, physical fitness+ expedition) I think only like 280 people in the country got this award last year.
•volunteer EMT(3 years)

Sports:
•Varsity Sports: Cross Country (2 years), Winter Track (2 years), Spring Track. top 20 team in NJ...not nearly good enough to run at stanford Div I.
•Travel Soccer(9th grade only)

Clubs:
•Future Physicians of America Club treasurer (11th), hopefully president in 12th
•Latin Honors Society- VP (12th)
•Newspaper-news/sports editor (12th)
•Politics club-hopefully boardmember next year
•NHS- haha but who isnt in this anyway?

recs should b good+ extra rec from research mentors. essays should b good too...i hope.

so thats about it. lemme kno if stanford ED is the right decision. Thnx a lot.

There is never a right decision in the admissions process, there are only methods of lessening the chances of rejection.
Your ED choice should be your #1 choice, flat out. Apply to Stanford EA if in your heart you believe you belong at Stanford rather than another school.

Well said brackis!

yea ur very right, and i do believe that i belong at stanford. i love everything about stanford and can truly imagine myself there (i've visited twice). Do you have idea what kinda of chances i will have when i apply EA. i completely agree with your views on ED/EA, but i'm just terrified of the rumors i've heard about stanford admissions, and, to a certain extent, doubt my accomplishments. I really appreciate all of ur advice and sorry if i sound like an overzealous azn.

Do not doubt your own achievement, rather be encouraged by the influx of talent that our nation's best and brightest are bringing to college!
You are undoubtedly smart, and to be rejected means that other students with equal academic achievements will also end up with rejections, and will then head to whatever school you choose to enroll in.
