I do not know if I am going to send in my test scores. I have only taken the ACT. My first time I scored a 27 and I just received my scores from this past test and scored a 29. Being that Bowdoin is a test optional school, will it matter in the admissions process? As for my school sending students to top schools, my school is brand new. This is only the second year of its existence; I will be part of its first graduating class. Will this hurt my chances?

Raceme - if we told you that you were going to get in, we'd be lying. You have a chance. That's all we can say. The only way to find out whether you're going to get in is to apply. And if you start obsessing about it now, you're going to be a sorry mess by this time next year, but if you want to know what's most important, it's your classes/gpa/rank. The tests only help measure what your gpa/rank means vs. other kids from other schools.

Raceme - Do you plan to play football or baseball in college?? Depending upon how good you are, that would be a factor in whether to apply ED or RD . .

Where do you go to school? I know there are kids here right now from Cary Academy, Chapel Hill High, CCD, and Northern. I went to Durham Academy. The admissions office definitely does know, by reputation, some NC schools.

I go to Holly Springs High School. It's brand new. I will be part of its first graduating class so it is very difficult for me to tell you of its competitiveness. However, all of the schools you have mentioned are very close to where I go to school. Cary Academy is 5 minutes up the road.

My stats were pretty similar to yours and I was admitted for 2012 (I'll be attending in the Fall). Plus, I'm from NJ where I imagine they get more applicants from than North Carolina, so you might have a geographic advantage. Honestly, since my math scores were a little on low side (600 SAT Math/ 25 ACT Math), as were my math grades, I was nervous about my chances. I did, however, try to use my writing experience and interest in history as a hook so that may have helped. I suggest you try to find something that you're particularly good at and talk about it, not arrogantly of course but passionately.
