thanks so much! should i retake the ACT? I’m satisfied with the english/math/reading but i got a 26 on science. how bad does that look? (does the rest balance it out?)

It would only help if you could boost your score up so I would say it’s worth a shot. Getting a 33 or 34 would solidify your chances but I don’t think it’s completely necessary if you have other things to occupy time you would be studying.

Definitely retake that ACT! The science section can be easily improved once you learn what they are looking for, and is mostly reading and understanding experiments/charts. Solid candidate for ED.

I would retake the ACT. I’m not sure how much thought they put into the Science score (if it were me I wouldn’t think twice about it), but it would certainly help to bump up your ACT score. Your GPA and ECs look good. With your current ACT score, I’d say that it’s a low reach for you. If you could bump up your ACT score to a 33 or 34, I’d say that you should get in. Good luck!

I believe even if you go for ED and the financial aid package doesn’t work out, you may decline your acceptance in the event that you get one. However, I would contact admissions to confirm that. But even then RD chances look fair, but not as good as if you went for ED.

4.46 on a 4.0 or 5.0 scale?
I actually have a friend (we live very, very close to NW though), who was accepted this year with a 29 on his ACT, a 4.1 gpa (on a 4.0 scale), and over 100 volunteer hours. He was told it was too far of a reach to apply to by our guidance counselors, but he did anyways and ended up getting in! I suggest you apply regardless of what you’re told. Based on the people i know who applied, I would say you hair a fair shot. It is a reach, but a rather low one in my opinion.
