Rec letters: Great! and from a former Columbia professor!
Essays: Pretty good, according to professors.

If you are applying for sophomore status, it will be very difficult for Cornell and Columbia. (Due to somewhat weak HS stats)

If junior status, it will still be fairly difficult given your GPA and the fact that you are majoring in the sciences/psychology (Say Mid-High Reach for both)

^ I disagree. I'm an NYU student applying to Cornell, and I asked several accepted applicants on the Cornell Spring '09 forum to share their stats with me...many with poor HS credentials (and a 3.82 is pretty good, your SAT is kinda low though) got in. I'd say you're in at NYU. College GPA is slightly low for the Ivies.

What college at Cornell? CAS, HumEc, and CALS all have Biology programs. The contract colleges (HumEc and CALS) seem to be favoring out-of-state applicants this year, or at least for freshman ED...don't know about transfer. I think you have a decent shot at Cornell, Columbia's a little tougher. Good luck...if your application's in, not much you can do now.
