Hi, I really need all the opinions I can get cause I’m really anxious these days for college application. I’m an international student from Taiwan and I finally persuaded my parents to let me study abroad this August so I started to do tons of research . Unfortunately I study in a local school where basically everyday is about studying and that kind of stuffs. Anyway, I never know that GPA is such a big deal for USA college applications, so I only did a mediocre job in terms of academic related works. Anyway, I really want to get into NYU using ED, I have the money talk with my parents already and we have figured out a way even if I don’t have scholarships. Ok, here are my stats.
My intended major is Stern(I know it’s really hard) hoping to concentrate in marketing. But What I really really want is taking the course of Business in Film and TV
I’m also interested in LSP( liberal studies program) due to small classes and the two years exploration of myself.
GPA: w:3.4 uw: 3.5 (nobody in our school knows how to calculate gpa so i kind of did it myself, it would be approximately this number)
SAT: reading:670 math:800 total:1470
ECs:
- Leader of the film club:
expand the club from 20 people to 70 people. Increase club worth from 2 US dollars to 670
dollars(I use American dollars so you guys can have a more specific idea) - Teen diplomatic Envoys:
12 teens from our country were chosen to represent Taiwan to travel to three countries and
employs viable diplomacy - TEDx speaker:
I gave a speech on the stage of a TEDx event about how I conquer my genetic defect and become confident in life. - HTLC ( Harvard Taiwan Leadership Conference)
I was admitted as one of the 96 Taiwanese teens to participate in this awesome conference, learned so much about
design thinking and leadership styles. It’s totally free but you have to be chosen to go so it’s not like one of conferences
where you just pay and go. - Volleyball Varsity
Played as the Starting Libero in every game. And I am the activity manager of the team. - Volunteer at Huashan Foundation:
Collects receipts for donation at the downtown area and take care of lone elders from time to time.
7 Hosts for several school events like Singing competition or School Fair ceremony.
8: Loves to dance and performed at several occasions like talent shows or Graduation trip. - Best English grades for three consecutive years ( we only study three years for high school in Taiwan)
We don’t have any APs or Honors in most of the schools in Taiwan except for International schools. But we do have to study every single subject whether you like it or not. It’s a total of ten subjects that needed to have mid term tests three times per year and a dozen more subjects like art or music and martial science stuffs like that.
I know i don’t really have a lot of ECs but I think my depth is pretty good( I think haha)
And I know my gpa was like awful for top schools, too bad when I know that it’s important I don’t have the opportunity to fix it.
I’m also the first generation of my family to study abroad and I’m the only one who understands English.
Thank You for doing this for me, I am deeply appreciated cause I’m really stressed these days and college application is getting on my nerves.
It would also be nice if you guys can maybe suggest schools with my stats and have great business and Film. I know about USC but I’m afraid that it would be unrealistic.
