Chances for Penn ED? (I'll chance you back)

So I've decided to apply to Penn ED, and I would really love to know if you all think I have a shot!

Stats:

None of the school's I've gone to have done rankings!!

SAT: 2310 (going to retake)
SATII: Literature: 750 Math II: 720 Chem: taking in November
Unweighted GPA: 3.6*
Weighted GPA: No idea
AP**: Psych-5, EngLit-4, EngLang-5, Microecon-5, USGov-5. (By the end of senior year I will have Calc AB and BC, Physics B and C, Chem, USH, Visual Art, and if I can get my school to administer them, Spanish, German and maybe Latin. I test well and plan to have nothing lower than a 4 on any of these.)

I know this is awful, and that it might just be a deal-breaker.
*I went to an IB school for my freshman and sophomore years, so those are all from my junior year.

ECs/Sports

Gr.9/10:
V. Ice hockey (captain and MVP sophomore year)
V. Field hockey (state all-star freshman year)
Duke of Edinborough
over 100 hours community service
social services club
amnesty international (only 9th)
model UN

Gr.11*
club ice hockey, captain

*this was a really difficult year for me. I switched into a huge school about a month late, and there's no excuse, but I really have nothing which is terrible because it's the most important year. Needless to say I spend a lot of time freaking out about this, but there's nothing I can do about it now except work as hard as I can to make up for it.

Gr.12

school forest (eco. clean up)
SPIDEE (diversity awareness education)
student review board- secretary (student government)
club ice hockey- captain
knitting club- founder/president (tutoring special needs kids)
volunteer work at the senior center

Essay and recs:

I really don't want to sound cocky, but I think I can write a great essay.

I just started at a new school (my family moves a lot) this year, so I had to get recs from junior year teachers who I had for less than a year. However, I am extremely confident in their caliber (AP English and AP Government teachers)

P.S. I want to do pre-med and major in Chem. and Bio. (unless that's too much in which case I'll switch right over to just chem)

Anybody have any ideas? Can somebody give me a comparison of my chances if I apply ED at Dartmouth instead?

My only question is this- why would you retake the SAT with a score of 2310? All Ivy League schools are pretty much reaches for anyone. You are probably not going to improve your chances much by trying to raise your score to a 2400.

I think Dartmouth would be more reasonable. Penn values more than anything your academic transcript.

I think you have a great chance at U Penn:) However there will be many applicants with many scores like yours.

Psychodad: I guess it’s personal more than anything. I just want a 2350+.

That’s one vote for Dartmouth. Anybody else?

Bump! (10char)

I think it’s interesting that you are getting letters of rec from an English teacher and a government teacher when you want to do setting completely unrelated to both of those classes.

I know, but my junior year I couldn’t take AP Chemistry or AP Physics because at the school I was attending at the time, Government/Economics was a junior year requirement and it was taught during the same period. So now I’m at a school with no physics at all (studying it on my own) and an AP Chemistry teacher who’s known me for all of a month. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do about it. My precalculus teacher was kind of cold and aloof, and I don’t really see him as the recommendation writing type.

Honest to god, I love chemistry so much. I mean, I enjoy studying chemistry more than I enjoy watching television or playing hockey. I know my choice of recommenders doesn’t convey that, but it’s been a struggle for me to decide on any of my teachers at all, having had them for such a short time. I don’t want admissions officers to think I don’t really care about what I want to study. I was hoping that I might demonstrate interest in my essay.

Penn is bigger, and potentially a better shot for you with a larger and more diverse applicant field. I’d like to be harsh and say its a Reach for now, even ED. Its not your numbers, its just that similar numbers and titles do tend to show up within admission offices.

As I say with others, try and make yourself seem like a person, and not a name on a list. If you do that, your chances jump. Best of luck, and hope the '13-'14 application season goes well for you!

Chance back, if you feel like it?

PS: A 3.6 ain’t a killer. Seen many a kid around my school (competitive, magnet) with not much better and acceptance into Ivys or that sorta level. Sure, maybe they have hooks, but point being, a 3.6 isn’t worth losing sleep over or calling “awful” just yet.

U have a great chance there. I think u should look for higher ones …

Higher whats?
I can’t tell; Was that sarcasm?

Thanks TypeRA! That was a really encouraging response. It’s not harsh to say it’s a reach. I know.

(bump)

Bump again…

Bump again!

(Dartmouth: 1, Penn: 1)

You look like you have a really good chance!

Chance me back please!

I forgot to mention that I’m proficient in English, Spanish, Latin (self-taught) and German (self-taught) and I’m currently teaching myself French.

I love French, man. It is so much fun to speak French.

DO NOT retake a 2310 (for lack of a better word, it makes you like like a ******).

I’d say you have just as good a chance for Penn or Dartmouth ED as anybody else.

Soze you just made my entire week better I adore you.

and I won’t retake the SAT

Bump (again).
Please help me out guys. Any input on the Darmouth ED vs Penn ED thing would be hugely appreciated.

with your stats it seems as if Dartmouth might be a better place to apply for ED since penn really values the gpa but a 3.6 isnt too bad

please chance me back!
