UW GPA: 3.37/4.0
School doesn’t rank or weigh GPA, but I’m an IB Diploma candidate and have been taking the hardest courses offered.
SAT Superscore - 2000: CR: 710, Math 650, Writing 640
SAT Best Sitting - 1990: CR 710, Math 640, Writing 640
I received virtually the same score twice. Was pretty disappointed with myself today, when I looked online.
Gender: Male
Race/Ethnicity: Asian, not URM
State: Washington
Income: ~$130,000 a year, my dad works full-time and my mom occasionally subs at high schools, but my mom makes less than $5,000 a year; she just enjoys teaching.
Parents’ education: My dad has a PhD in CompSci from UW Seattle and my mom has a master’s degree in business from Seattle U.
Prospective major: Computer Science (I will be applying as undecided to my meet-reach schools, because I understand that my grades and scores do not reflect those of a strong, or even potential candidate, especially with my subpar math score).
Course + GPA Breakdown:
Freshman Year - all Pre-IB/AP classes: ~3.7 UW GPA
Sophomore Year - all Pre-IB/AP classes: ~3.0 first semester, ~2.7 second semester
Junior Year - all IB classes: ~3.3 first semester, 3.73 second semester
Senior Year - IB classes
IB Diploma Candidate + taking IB Calculus senior year and taking physics. Also got my art credit freshman year.
High school is pretty rigorous, public school w/ 100+ IB Diploma candidates. I have 2 D’s from freshman year and a few C +'s.
Extracurriculars:
Club soccer (rec) from 3rd grade to 11th grade
Vice President of HS chess club
Volunteered ~80 hours total at a library for IB’s CAS service hours (probably not worth including)
Additional notes I guess: high school began in 10th grade, not 9th grade. Was diagnosed by a doctor in 10th grade for ADD. I refused accommodations for my situation because I already super lazy and did not want to encourage my terrible studying habits. I’m sure CC has a lot of people that say this, but I lost a lot of motivation during junior high and stopped caring about school and my future. I started trying to break my bad habits junior year and improve my attitude toward school, but my future is looking pretty bleak. I know that my extracurriculars are weak, but high school was a rough transition for me and I was not ready for the rigor of my courses, leading me to stray from being social and involved at school. Additionally, I couldn’t really do National Honor Society because of my GPA.
Please chance me for these private/LC schools (note that the majority of these schools are reach/high meet. Don’t need help with safeties.): Northeastern U, Boston U, U of Richmond, Bucknell U, Lehigh U, U of Rochester, Colgate, Santa Clara U. It would also be nice if you could chance me for UW Seattle.
Again, I realize that my situation is less than ideal and I shouldn’t expect more than what my performance justifies. Nonetheless, I’d still appreciate your advice and honest opinion.
