Chances for Pton ED, Dart, Northwestern, etc

I would really appreciate it if I could get some honest evaluations for the following schools:

Princeton ED, Yale, Dartmouth, Cornell, Northwestern, Swarthmore, UPenn, and Boston University

I am currently a junior and want to know if I am looking at the right type of schools. I know I have a lot of reaches on that list (I will add some more safeties, but suggestions are welcomed). I don't know whether I am being unrealistic about having so many extreme reaches on there, or if they are attainable.

Here are my stats:

White male from suburban public school in MA
2/165
Weighted GPA is 4.713 as of last year, probably closer to 4.8 this year
I'm unsure of how to calculate unweighted GPA...I've heard about 100 ways to do so. If it is 4 for As and 3 for Bs, then I have a 4.0, but if it is calculated differently I would appreciate input on how to do so.

SAT I: 2300 (one sitting if it matters)
CR: 800
Math: 790
Writing: 710

APs:
Soph Year: US History (5)
Junior Year: Currently taking AP Eng Lang; AP Bio, and AP European History
Senior Year: planning to take...
AP English, AP French, AP Calc, AP Chem, and Honors Physics (we don't offer AP)

If it matters I am considering a degree in Chemical engineering.

ECs:
My biggest EC is band; I play the clarinet and have done so for 6 years. I play constantly: I am the principal in Honors Concert Band (a class in school), the Wind Ensemble (an extracurricular select group); I play for the pit orchestra in the musical; I was 2nd chair in the band for Central Districts, and I was recently accepted to All State Band. I would guess that I play probably 15+ hours a week (including band class).

Another big one is Boy Scouts. I have recently been unable to attend because of Wind Ensemble, but when I can I go to almost every event. I am very involved in the leadership of the troop: I have served as Senior Patrol leader for multiple terms. I am close to earning my Eagle Scout; I will have done so by my ED application next year.

Kind of attached to Boy Scouts is Junior Leadership Training Conference, a purely scout lead leadership seminar that lasts a week. I attended this and was on staff twice; the second year I was ASPL (2nd in command for those of you who don't know Boy Scout acronyms). It was a very time intensive but leadership building activity.

JSA: I have been involved in this club for two years, heavily for only this year. I am the club's treasurer and webmaster (<a href="http://www.ashlandjsa.org%5B/url%5D">www.ashlandjsa.org</a> if you're interested, i'm proud of it). I spend probably 5 or so hours a week, way more when conferences are nearby.

I am also a member of the Academic Decathlon team and NHS, but those are kind of minor. I spent a lot of time on Acadec when it was the season and I spend a couple hours a week tutoring for NHS, but they are nothing major.

Finally, I work 20 hours a week at CVS.

I'm sorry for the terrible length....I got kind of carried away. I have already posted this in the Princeton board but I figured I could get the chances for the rest of my list on this. Please be honest!

Thanks!

Sorry, I forgot to add a couple of leadership things and it won't let me edit

I am the secretary of band this year, and will most likely be the president next year. Also, I will be a co-captain of Acadec next year.

First of all:

Princeton ED - reach
Yale - reach
Dartmouth - slight reach / reach
Cornell - match
Northwestern - match
Swarthmore - slight reach
UPenn - slight reach (reach if Wharton)
Boston U - safety

Academically you are fine, and you couldn't do much better from a GPA/SAT standpoint. SAT IIs are just as critical, so make sure you end up w/ comparable scores on those.

Your ECs are strong and show purpose but I'm afraid they won't really jump off the page (unless you are good enough to play clarinet at any of your schools). The key for you is to really bring these to life in your essays and show how much they mean to you...otherwise you might just get set aside as someone who only cares about academics.

I agree with the previous poster in general. You have a reasonable list, but consider adding one more low match/safety. Tufts can be strange with admissions, but Brandeis should be a safety if you want something in Boston.

Princeton: 30% ED
Yale: 20%
Penn: 50% CAS and 30% with Wharton
Dartmouth: 50%
Swarthmore: 70%
NW: 75%
Cornell: 75%
BU: 100%

first, nice sat's but heres what i think of your stats
Princeton- reach
Yale - reach
Dartmouth - high match
Cornell - match
Northwestern - match
Swarthmore - reach
UPenn - slight reach
Boston U - safety

I think you would have a VERY good chance at Princeton ED

every school on your list is attainable (as is every school in America)

You have very stong ECs, with great SATs,

a 1590 SAT Salutorian = a very good chance anywhere

^agreed!!!

Agreed with above posters on chances except I think Swarthmore and Dartmouth are matches not reaches/high matches. Dukeclassof09's percentages look pretty accurate.

Wow, thank you everyone! That is very encouraging.

Also, could I get some input on UMich OOS rolling, Brown, and Stanford? I'm pretty sure I can predict what ppl will say about UMich and Stanford but not sure about Brown.

UMich- safety
Brown- match
Stanford- reach

Stanford is pretty challenging to get into SECA.

i'd say you have about a 3% chance at any of those.

with your stats, i would recommend something more like umass amherst.

i think you should do an internship in haiti. your ec's are quite weak as of now.

2300 sat's...haha...that might be okay for someplace such as BJU...but this is the real world...we're talking the big leagues...let's get realistic here

lol bartagio thanks for the sarcasm....

anyone else with predictions?

what sarcasm? i don't kid around. i keep it real.

If by "real" you mean sarcastic, then yes, you do.

I'll just bump this one last time to get some predictions if possible for the following schools:

Princeton ED, Yale, Dartmouth, Cornell, Northwestern, Swarthmore, UPenn, Boston University, Brown, Stanford, and UMich OOS

Thanks!
