EC's
Only going to list the ones very important to me. So I have more but I am too lazy to type :(

I am asian btw

ACE Team - Won many awards for this. Its a jeapordy (sp?) competition between schools in a region
Varsity Tennis - not good enough to be recruited but meh
Big Brothers Big Sisters - every week I help tutor 2 or so hours to a kid. I know not much but Have been doing since junior year
NHS - Kinda commonplace but I tutor in this and help fundraising. Nothing too big
Hispanic NHS - VP of this. Help do fundraisers and other stuff.

Btw I do have other things out of school (mostly volunteering about 200 hours) but I did not mention it. I just put my 5 most important EC's and not my out of school EC's.

Awards - Only 1 State award (not AP state or w/e award it is). But many county / regionals.

I go to a mediocre high school. i took maximum APs and honors classes.

Ok well there it is. Oh and I am from WV.

Thanks for your input!

Your stats are in the range, and your GPA/rank is great. A lot would depend on the way you present yourself on your application. I hope you sound more enthusiastic there then in this post...

Thanks a lot. yea I did not sound very enthusiastic... i am very overwhelmed right now. 13 applications is a bad idea >.<.

Now for academic stuff
Rank 2/360, saledictorian
i think about a 4.0 gpa uw (it may be 3.96 or 3.98. Got 1 B and like 45 or 49 A's)
took most rigorous course in my school which isnt saying much, 6 APS, 10 honors.

Um now for the essays
MOst of them will be good. Some may be a bit iffy but overall pretty ok / good

EC's
This one club called ACE team. Pretty fun club. Like jeapordy. Won many awards for it. its a regional thing
Math Field day - (we have no math / science club) went to regionals twice
NHS - not much to say here. TUtor in this club also
HIspanic NHS - treasurer for this club. Do other things >.>
Big Brothers Big Sisters - a club in which I tutor 2 hours a week to another kid
Varsity tennis - 10-12. 3rd doubles team
Varsity CC - 9-10. Now really worth mentioning. Wasnt very good at it though.
SPIRIT program - My school is very diverse. With minorities making up about 40% (about 25% african american, 10% hispanic, 5% asian and other races). In this it was a 2 day workshop. We talked about many things our school had problems with. Pretty interesting. Was nominated the speaker and leader for the asian group whenever we have meetings during the year to talk about this thing.

Some out of school things
9th grade summer - summer school / volunteer at hospital for 50 or so hours
10th grade fall - volunteered at a theatre for about 70 hours
11th grade summer - summer school / volunteered at hospital for 50 hours or so
12th grade - traveled to india. Got to see some cool things. Some surgery's too :0

Anyhow summer was pretty filled for me, believe it or not.

Ok finally awards.
9th Grade - Golden Horseshoe Award (involved both 8th and 9th) (State award)
10th - Math Field Day - advanced to regionals
9th, 10th - Social Studies Fair - Advanced to regionals both times
9th, 10th - Science Fair - Advanced to regionals both times
11th - Highest Point Award (ACE Team)
11th - ACE Team - 1st place
9th - 11th - Success Through Academic Recognition (STAR)
Volunteer Awards - From two separate hospitals for volunteering

I have more awards and probably more EC's but some of them are not worth mentioning. Anyhow thanks for the feedback in advance!

Also I am doing an optional essay.

Oops sorry if other college stuff is in here. I accidentailly copied / pasted from the chances thread.

Applying to engineering.

Gotta love copy and paste.

The fact that you took the SAT 4 times is very noticible, and starts your application on a negative footing. Your scores are good, and you have done amazingly well academically, but I am not sure if you are distinguishable based on what you posted. Make sure your recs are great, and that you write wonderful essays.

It does not matter how many times you take SATs. Don't worry about it. Your "final" scores are fine and "in the range".

Your chances will depend greatly on how you present yourself on the application. You have to "come alive" through your essays, show some personality.

Being Asian actually helps at LACs.

seriously??
eeeeee
::squeals::
=)

i am put off by the fact that you keep calling it "saledictorian" instead of salutatorian, in addition to your. disjointed. way. of writing.

your stats are good but not spectacular for someone who is asian, male, and applying to swat for engineering. (as in they will be about the same as everyone else applying from that category, since you concentrate heavily on math and science)

i've come to the realization that saying something like "Um now for the essays
MOst of them will be good. Some may be a bit iffy but overall pretty ok / good" is pretty much pointless. A generic evaluation of "good" is not very descriptive, nor is it accurate. If you're going to submit something, aren't you inherently going to think it's good? No one sends in essays thinking, "oh this is terrible" without bothering to make them better.

i'm rather sorry for this post, i'm in a terrible mood today.

Gyro is a vey strong candidate and the fact that he is from WV is a plus.
While skyfellin is being a bit picky, your essays should shine and be error free.

Noo my sat scores only sent for the 3 times because I never waited for my 4th score to come before sending (And I found out I got the same score). So its ONLY out of 3 SAT times. Not 4

Oh and I arranged a off campus interview. How long do these take usually? It was about a week or so ago when I did it.

"saledictorian"

[/quote]

HAHAHAHHAHAAHH
I didn't even notice that.
wow...

Oh, give him a break on the "saledictorian" thing. Some schools use those terms a lot more than others, and there's really no reason why he should know the word if it's not a big deal at his high school.

My bad I thought I fixed it on all of my edits. Guess I missed one.

being asian helps? SWEEET.

I don't really think being Asian helps much at all. I mean, yes the school is primarily white. However of the minority groups, Asian is the largest by a significant margin (at least I think it is...). The advantage (particularly for an Asian male applying to engineering) minuscule/non-existent compared to a urban African-American male.
