Daaaamn, Jeff you're good!

Word of warning. Kid recruited at my Ds highschool by Harvard for football applied EA then was not accepted. He's at Dartmouth now. There was a great thread on the parent's forum - if you look for SBMom and/or "likely letter" you can probably find it and it will help you decipher what level of interest the coach really has in you and what's he's willing to do to get you in.

Here, I looked for you.

Thanks for the link - I hadn't seen that article yet.

are harvard likely letters for football out yet?

You could definately get in. Being a recruit is like having food in Africa to those Ivy Leagues. Your chances are high if you're at least "good" at football.

We are already setting up interviews for people whose SCEA apps are in.

So, should I be worried? I'm done w/the SCEA app, stuck on the essay (like everyone I suppose), but the main prob is my school has been dragging their feet and hasn't sent in a game film yet.

I guess my next step is narrowing my list of other schools, should H proove too much of a stretch...

Other schools that have shown an interest include:

Brown
U of Chicago
John Hopkins
Wesleyan
Case Western
University of Minnesota
Cornell College (not University)

any input?

What do you mean, "shown interest"?
Has Minnesota asked for a letter of intent?
Any likely letters likely?

Goose them on the game film of the Cesar Chavez game last Friday night by saying you need to file your SCEA app NEXT WEEK!

Jeff-get that game film in! i can't see a coach really going to bat for you hard unless he's seen you play. if your coaches are taking too long to make a copy, see if you can go in and do it yourself. good luck

when someone says they are being recruited what do you guys interpret that to mean?

jeff--get that film in today! surely your coach will understand your urgency on this!

or have they already seen you play at a camp or some other venue?

Hey, I'm home on 1/2 day. Thanks for the replys! I just talked to both my coach & athletic director and they say it will take 2 WEEKS to get a film out!! I am totaly screwed! So, my Dad says he will film Fridays game and we'll send it in ourselves. Wish me luck...

bump...
wbow - no, they haven't seen me play yet (that I know of).
Byerly - no likely letters yet, nothing but letters expressing interest and asking to send in films, stats, inviting to campus, etc. Man, I don't know how other guys are managing all this college application/recruiting stuff while focusing on their own current season, plus working a job, juggling a load of classes, etc. I'm really in over my head :(

bump...

Homecoming game tonite - wish me luck!

good luck, jeff! hope you have a great game!

my son's team ends regular season play tonight--hoping to finish up 9-0!

hey! 9-0 and conference champs! Hope you had a victorious homecoming night, jeff!

Basha beats Marcos de Niza, 14-7. No stats posted.

certainly not as good of a game as last week. I think I ended up w/like 100 yds. But I also got in on D again which is good.

... and congrats wbow! what state?

illinois. when is your regular season over?

FWIW, I know a football recruit at Yale that got in with a 1260 (He also said that his essays basically read "I play football") . It's certainly a possibility for you. The Ivies have rules about academic standards for sports recruits - I forget the details but the gist of it is that that can only take so many people more than two (or maybe one?) standard deviations below their average student, and only a VERY limitied amount of people three below. I can't say I know much about football. Do you think you are good enough to be one of those chosen few?

I still say apply, though. Harvard's name is an unbelivable door-opener in later life, and since there aren't many 5'11 guys in the NFL it will help you in a more conventional career. Even if its a longshot the payout makes it worthwhile.
