Chance an Athlete

I am being highly recruited for numerous Division I programs. However, I am still concerned with actually getting into certain schools. I know I have a MAJOR hook, but I still worry at times. What do you guys think?

Top 5 Choices
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Duke
Stanford

The first three I am HIGHLY recruited at. Please keep this in mind.

Currently a junior.

3.94 Unweighted GPA
4.4 Weighted GPA
2200 SAT
Essays and Rec's will be excellent
50+ hours of community service

What do you think?

I think you can probably enter without sports! your GPA looks great, SAT is pretty high, but Id take it again if I got 2200 (try to get 2400!), but I dont know if your ECs are enough, but 50+ hours is alot. where did you do those 50+ hours? are you a part of any clubs?

I hope the above poster is joking

50 hours isn’t a lot at all.

Any ECs besides sports?

your GPA/SAT is average.

Thereupon, you pretty much have the same chance as a average academic due to your hook.

I’d say your best bet is Duke.

You are in at HYP. Being a recruited athlete means that if your stats are within range they simply will NOT reject you. Your stats are definitely within range.

First of all, what sport?

no, I wasnt kidding. 50 hours is alot of time, and I was wondering where/how he spent them.

I am actually being recruited for two sports at the three ivy’s and one at Duke/Stanford. I have not decided which I would want to play. I also have offers from other big division I programs. I was just looking to hear some responses. I understand that my EC’s are weak, but in all honesty, I have very little free time. I am going to do my best to boost them over the summer so that they are a little more substantial. Any specific suggestions?

If you fill 2 sports, I wouldn’t worry about having any other ECs. You’re clearly a very valuable applicant to the schools you’re applying to, especially HYP.

duke youre in easy without sports.
even if you are being recruited, take a couple of SAT2, tack on some points on your SAT score, and youre in easy.
Philosophy dude, i dont know if your joking, but a 3.94 GPA 4.4 Weighted is not “average”. Nor is a 2200. A college wont reject your recruitment because some overachiever out there has a 2400 and 3 800 SAT2. You play multiple sports very competitively, yet you still hold ivy league numbers.
very impressive, good luck.

Thanks! I forgot to add this on my initial list but I am also considering Amherst College. I would assume I would have a fairly good chance there also. Although, I would tend to think since it is Division III, my athletics won’t play as critical a role in admissions. Is this accurate?

I definitely am going to retake the SAT I to try to improve slightly so I feel like a “lock”. This is in addition to my subject tests in the fall.

Do you think with my two sports I am set on EC’s? Should I do some more volunteer work just to boost my app. or am I wasting my time?

You would be wasting your time; unless, of course, you are genuinely interested in undertaking another EC.
