Chances for SCEA

Hi,

I want to know which school I have the best chance of getting into with SCEA. Basically, I want to be an engineer, but I want to be a liberal artsy engineer, one that is just as well grounded in the social sciences as in the natural sciences. This is reflected by my high school record too. I attend a public school, which usually sends about 10+ kids to IVYS, but probably only 3 or 4 to HYP. My SAT is 2250, but I can def improve it. If I just get a 800 in math, the superscore jumps to a 2320. I'm president multiple clubs and an editor for the school newspaper. I'm really interested in a lot of specific things, but I lack a specific talent that I particularly excel in, so that could weigh me down a lot. For my interests, which one do I have the best chance of getting into SCEA.

On a side note, is it true that it is harder to get in SCEA with HYPC. I heard that the early round is largely reserved for people who are recruited and people who are superhuman, rendering competition much more difficult.

Oh and 800 SAT Physics, 760 SAT Chem, waiting to take MAth 2, but hoping for an 800 (curve is pretty generous)

As a recently graduated, un-hooked high school senior who got into Harvard SCEA, I can assure you that most early-admitted students are not “superhuman.” Applying early shows your commitment to the school and places you in a smaller group of students who are up for consideration. Going EA at HYPC, just as at any university, increases your chances of getting in considerably. That said, based on your stats and ECs alone, I’d say you have a chance at any of the Ivies, although getting in is still unlikely, as it is for everyone.

I appreciate the advice Desvuurmis. I’m sorry to ask, but are you a URM?

He mentions that he is “un-hooked,” so that would imply that be is not a URM.

A lot of URM’s consider their race as not a hook, so I was just making sure.
