Chances for Stanford, Brown, UPenn, and the UC's

<p>I'm a new user, but I'll give this a shot</p>

<p>Ethnicity: Indian Male (ethnically from India) from California</p>

<p>I know it comes as a surprise (as it did for my parents), but I'd like to major in history and would love to get my teaching credentials some day. My activities have been focused on sciences, but I discovered my passion later on</p>

Critical Reading- 730, Math- 680, Writing- 670 (I plan on retaking, but it won't be early enough for Stanford's Early action program)</p>

<p>SAT II-
US History- 790
Chemistry-720 (I plan on retaking this with math II as well)</p>

AP Calculus AB- 5 (I've taken the BC class, but decided not to take the test)

<p>Volunteering-
-At a nursing home- fifty hours my sophmore year
-Guest Ushering speakers like Bill Clinton, and Doris Kearns Goodwin- 15 hours
-the emergency room at our local level 2 trauam center- 250 hours (sophmore-junior year)</p>

<p>Work Experience-
-I worked this year at a clinical laboratory as a technician preparing pre-natal and newborn samples for testing and. I also spent a good portion of my time learning the history of the program and planning to expand funding for it (yes, I know California is in the crapper for funding)</p>

<p>Extra Curriculur Activities-</p>

<p>Speech and Debate (National Forensics League)
This, like it is for many other applying to college, has become one my chief passions
- I spent 4-8 hours a week teaching students the background to international relations and coached speeches
- I helped build our fledgling group in extemporaneous speaking to a league and invitational winning speaking team
-I've won numerous firsts in our league and was named University of the Pacific's extemp speaking champ
-I finalled in the Santa Clara University forensics invitational in extemp and also finaled at the Mlk Invitation hosted by James Logan High School in extemp
-I have qualified for state championships two years running, nfl nationals two years running
-This year I was ranked in the top 30 in the nation for extemp and also individually ranked 16th in the nation
- Named speaker of the year "runner up" in our area which stretches from northern california to the central valley
-team captain for the 2009-2010 school year</p>

<p>Clarinet-
- Private lessons since 5th grade
-sat principal clarinet for two years running
- For the 2009-2010 school year was accepted through audition into the top youth symphony orchestra in sacramento- its widely known in northern california and in europe (idk?)</p>

<p>(I've a whole host of other more finicky activities that I did less intensively, but had fun in)</p>

<p>I would be greatful if you could tell me where I can improve (other than my scores) and what my chances are for the aforementioned colleges</p>

<p>Stanford is a school that rejects rather than defers SCEA applicants. I strongly suggest you wait for your higher scores and apply there RD.</p>
