I'm a high school sophomore at an elite private school in California. I play the viola and plan to be in our school's chamber orchestra for all four years of high school. I'm the secretary of the orchestra this year. I also play the piano, but don't have many accomplishments with it. I plan to do Piano Guild (you play for a judge and they score you, not a competition between students) this March/April, though.

I was also on the Golf team in the fall, and plan to continue playing junior and senior year. There is only one team which is classified as "Varsity", but there aren't any try-outs; anyone can be on the team. Will colleges know this?

I've also done some volunteering in various areas. I've been helping a blind woman by walking her dog for the past year and a half, and I've helped out in a kindergarden classroom for about 20 hours. I volunteered in a soup kitchen one night, too, and might do this again. I would like to start volunteering at a local hospital.

This summer I'm planning on doing a volunteer trip to Costa Rica for two weeks. I'll also probably get a job at a grocery store or something similar, and will continue to volunteer, probably at the hospital. I might take an SAT prep class, too.

My GPA right now is a 3.9 (unweighted), and I'm taking honors math and chemistry (the most my school offers for sophomores is 3 honors classes and 1 AP). Next year I think I'll take 2 honors in English (required) and math, 2 AP classes in spanish and science, and double up in science (so I'll have 6 core classes). My PSAT scores were about 180 and PLAN score was 28 (out of 32). My dad, grandfather, grandmother, and uncle went to Stanford, too. What can I do in the next 2 years to help my chances of getting in? Or if my resume isn't up to their standards, what other places will I likely get into? Thanks! :)
