Decent/Average EC

I want to major in either Business or Computer Engineering.

What are my chances into getting into:

Univeristy of Texas Austin (I already know the chance is kinda slim)
Texas A & M University
Univeristy of Texas Dallas
Univeristy of Houston
University of California Los Angeles
University of Southern California
Trinity University

My parents also want me to apply to these even though it's highly unlikely that I will be admitted to them.
CalTech
MIT
Rice
Cornell

I think I messed up by taking over vigorous that I could not handle which in turn brought down my GPA, but I am try to improve throughout the rest of this year and next year. I mainly get B's in honors/AP course and A's in regular classes.

Your GPA is going to knock you out from CalTech, MIT, Rice and possibly even Cornell, unless you have some reallllyyy good extracurriculars in the back.

The other’s are mid reaches, maybe low reach/high match on a few of them (I don’t know them that well though, so I may not necessarily be the best person for that).

Speaking of which, where are your extracurriculars? Anyway, back to GPA. Try to move to as many AP classes as you can, even if it means getting a B (try to go for A though, you need them!). It means a lot to colleges that you still continue to challenge yourself. Flaking out for a regular class, not so much.

I’d STRONGLY recommend you work on your SAT and ACT (you could try it, might be better). Go for a 2000, and a 2100 if possible. Those will help you tremendously with your application. Do whatever it takes (minus losing extracurriculars and grade drops) to bring this up. Take a class, self study, whatever you want - those need to come up.

It’s hard to comment on your ECs, seeing that there aren’t any listed, but if you can, try to aim for some leadership ECs (e.g. starting a club, officer position, etc) or ECs focused around an area of your choice, preferably your major (e.g. medical, science, math, etc). Those can help a lot with AdComs.

Here are my ECs
• Member, Computer Science Club
• Member, Math and Science Club
• Member, Spanish Honor Society
• Member, Chess Club
• Member, Red Cross
• Member, Diversity Club
• Member, Interact
• Over 100 hours of community service throughout high school

I plan on being officers of a couple of these clubs and organizations next year. I am also in the process of starting a club for next year also.
