I’m a sophomore, which is pretty early but I want to make sure that I’m on track. These are my grades.
Freshman 1st Semester : 4.00
Freshman 2nd Semester: 3.90
Sophomore(So Far): 4.00
I am in no extracurricular activities.
you are on a good track. Here’s a little adivce you won’t get elsewhere - Take classes you are confident you can excedl in - An A in AP Stat beats a D in Calc…
Also, get involved in something… a club, sport, job, whatever - but, don’t let them undermine your GPA
Keep it up and check back next year…
You are definitely intelligent and on track.
I’d give slightly different advice. Take classes you are interested in. And have some fun. Take band, dance, an art class, or a sport. This is your only shot at high school. You will clearly get into a good college. Make sure to have some fun on the journey.
Join an EC ASAP. A club, dance, choir band, whatever it is. There is no high enough GPA that can make up for no ECs. Don’t wait until Junior year either, the longer you are in something the more likely you are to become captain/officer which looks great on applications.
But it isn’t all about applications either. There are many many good colleges. This is OP’s only opportunity to be in high school. It’s important to have a life. It truly isn’t all about college.
You can have ECs and also have a life. Actually, if anything, being a part of ECs forces you to be a part of a multitude of diverse communities, allowing you meet new people from different backgrounds. They can also help you develop a passion in life.
Also, yes, OP is on a very good track, but he is only halfway through sophomore year, so anything can change at any time. It’s important to have a good balance of ECs in stuff to make up for the possibility of getting a few too many Bs, or even a C. Not saying it will happen, but you never know.
If anything, ECs are a better use of your time than staying home and playing video games all day, in my opinion. Enjoy school, but remember what’s important, too.
I completely agree. Perhaps I wasn’t being clear. ECs are one of the best ways of having a life. But it is important to pick them based on your interests and not on what will look good on a future college application.
