Hello,
I’m currently going into my senior year of a California public high school. It’s been a lifelong goal and dream of mine to attend either UCLA or UC Berkeley, but I’m not sure how well I stack up in the holistic application reviewing process. Here are my current stats
Weighted GPA: 4.59
Unweighted GPA: 3.94
UC GPA: 4.24
SAT score: 2020 (650 reading, 640 math, 730 writing)
ACT: I don’t know my scores yet but I expect around a 31
Class rank: 7 of 474
My high school has an API score of 826 although I think that will become obsolete with the new Common Core system (CAASPP).
I have taken four AP classes so far (World History, US History, Language and Comp, Biology) and plan to take four more senior year (US Government, Statistics, Literature and Comp, Art History). I also completed three years of Spanish. I am currently taking a Physical Geography community college course that I am expecting to get an A in.
Extra curricular activities include: 4 years of Academic League, 2 years JV Water Polo, 2 years JV Swim, 2 years varsity swim, 4 year member of CSF, vice president of Oceanography Club. Volunteer hours are so minimal that they aren’t even worth mentioning.
Leadership: Yearbook editor in chief, Sophomore class vice president, nominated for both RYLA and Boys’ State conventions, JV swim captain (one year), JV water polo captain (one year)
I’m a white male from an upper middle class income bracket so nothing special in that regard.
Please let me know if you think I have a shot at either UCLA or UC Berkeley or what I could do to improve my chances! Thank you!
