chances for UCR, SDSU, CSULB

uc gpa=3.6
sat=1790 (2nd time and I had summer prep RIP, going to retake oct).
exc=marching band, jazz band
Current junior and I know I screwed up in HS. I moved 3 times during HS, and developed depression. However, this summer I cured my depression with music, and I currently have all As(2 AP). I know colleges hate sob stories. Could my personal statement help me at all? Should I just go the cc route?

CSULB and SDSU go strictly by the numbers: CSU GPA and SAT Math and CR. A personal statement will only help with UCR via the essays. What is your SAT breakdown and intended major?

M=670 CR=520 W=600
intended major=Civil engineering or EE

Your eligibility index for the Cal states is 4070.
EI= (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + CR).

For CSULB, around a 3900+ EI is usually competitive for admission, so good chance.
For SDSU, around a 4100+ EI is usually competitive for admission, so probably 50/50 it could either way.

EI thresholds are dependent upon the stats for each in-coming Freshman class so they can fluctuate.

UCR: High Match

Good Luck.
