Chances for UC's, USC, maybe Stanford/MIT. Updated GPA + worried about SAT's!

I'm an incoming senior
I'm a Hispanic male (born Argentina, lived in Colombia 8 years, came to US at age 9)

I'm in a good public school in California with about 3-5 people going to Ivies each year and about 20-30 going to Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSD

GPA unweighted: 4.00
weighted: 4.48 (expect to get a 4.68 by end of senior year, which is good enough to meet the school district standard of 4.65 standard to be a valedictorian (more than one is allowed))

class rank: 6/600 (should end up tied for number 2 by the end of my senior year)

Course Loads:

8th Grade:
Geometry H (for high school credit)

Freshman:

Track and field

Sophomore:

Photography CP
French 3 CP
Track

Planned for senior year:
AP English Literature and Composition
AP Studio Art (photography)
AP Physics

(other APs offered at my school are AP biology, AP computer science, AP art history, AP music theory, and i think that's it)

SAT I:

First time: 1970

Reading: 640
Math: 690
Writing: 640 (68 MC, 7 on essay)

Second time: 2120 (I was really disappointed because I was able to get ranges around 2100-2300 in practice tests, with 800s on math a couple times and almost 800s for writing. My reading score was especially upsetting because I had been improving and then I did worse on it than on my first time. I guess my superscored SAT would be a 2130, but most schools don't look at that. You've probably heard this before but I get really nervous and stressed when taking timed tests which really affects my performance, but colleges won't care of course).

Reading: 630
Math: 740
Writing: 750 (73 MC, 10 on essay)

SAT II's:

Chemistry: 760
Math II: 760
U.S. History: 740

Extracurriculars:
Track and Field- 4 years (won frosh soph 4x100 relay in league finals last year)
CSF (will have 3 years)
Link Crew leader (Link Crew is a nationally recognized program where upperclassmen take freshmen through the freshman orientation before school starts, and they also do tutoring for struggling freshmen throughout the school year, for those of you who didn't know) (will have 2 years)
Volunteer at local hospital 4 hours a week (will have 2 years, 150-200 hours at least by end of senior year)
Photography

I want to major in electrical engineering

This is the current list of schools that I'm applying to:

Stanford
MIT
UC Berkeley (I would absolutely love to go here if I don't get into Stanford or MIT)
UCLA
UCSD
UCSB
UC Davis
Cal Poly SLO
USC

So what are my chances?

And also, I heard that to be considered for Regents at UC's you need at least a 2100 SAT, so would I not be considered since I'm too close to the minimum?

And should I even bother with Stanford and MIT?

Your SAT scores are sort of low for MIT/UCB/UCLA/Stanford so they’d be some hard reaches.

Stanford: Reach
MIT: Reach
UC Berkeley: Reach
UCLA: Reach
UCSD: Low Reach
UCSB: Lowwww reach
UC Davis: Low Reach/Match
Cal Poly SLO: Match
USC: I have no Idea, sorrry :/

Okay I’m sorry but I definitely have to disagree with most of your opinions. UCSB a reach? Anyone else got something to say on this? Or something to add?

bump please

what does bump mean?

GPA and rank are good, obviously. You gotta do something about CR – that’s a killer. Stanford and MIT: never. UCB and UCLA maybe, with a higher CR. The others look good especially Davis, SB and Cal Poly. USC 50/50.

My bad, I meant UCSB as a low reach.

@xargon42, it’s to bring the thread back to the top of the board

It just bumps your thread to the top of the first page of a forum so it gets noticed more so people reply, something which I am currently struggling with.

Great GPA and rank, but you have to get those SAT’s up! With higher SAT’s you have a great shot at most of the UC’s. Like everyone else, Stanford, MIT, and Berkley are still reaches.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/735911-chance-georgia-peach-stanford-other-top-schools-i-chance-back.html</a> thanks!

Stanford - Reach
MIT - Reach
Match for everything else.

Seriously though, NO ONE is a match for MIT or Stanford (unless you’ve cured cancer).
Also, since you’re a california resident your chances for all the UCs are significantly amplified, I know a countless number of people who’ve gotten into UCLA and UCB with MUCH lower accomplishments than you.

You’re fine, just make a kickass essay and do your best.

Everyone… He’s ****ing HISPANIC.

Stanford -Slight Reach
MIT - Slight Reach
UC Berkeley (I would absolutely love to go here if I don’t get into Stanford or MIT) -Match
UCLA-Match
UCSD-Match
UCSB-Match
UC Davis-Match
Cal Poly SLO-Match
USC-Match

All UCs, you’ll get in… they should be your safeties.

^ Minorities don’t have any significant advantages at UCs, only privates.

UC’s don’t practice affirmative action. Berkeley and UCLA should not be considered safeties for him.

oh. someone should bump my chance thread. or maybe just read it. Chance please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/736144-chance-upcoming-senior-my-school-picks.html</a></p>

I really thought I could improve on the critical reading. I really don’t want to take it again. I know people with a 2060 that got into UCLA, but I don’t know everything else they had.

Bump please. Does anyone have more positive predictions for Berkeley and UCLA, considering my GPA/ class rank? Shouldn’t that be way more important since it takes a lot more work to accomplish?

bump please. I really want to hear what more people have to say, I’m really worried about my chances at Berkeley/UCLA because of my SAT score.

I don’t think you have very good chances at Stanford/MIT…uhh…they require you to be pretty outstanding, and while your app is good and solid, it doesn’t match up to that level.
I think you have really good chances at all the UCs though, especially if you write good essays. The SAT score will hurt, esp the CR, but you could consider retaking it… and with your good ECs and heavy courseload, I’d say the UCs are matches

pretty good academics/EC’s, try to win some competative awards, or maybe do some research but everything else is very good
i would say match for the UC’s
very very very very low reach for Berkley - stretch like 1 micrometer and your in
MIT/Stanford id have to say high reach =(
chance back??
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/735826-mit-stanford-hopkins-chance-will-chance-back-promise.html</a></p>

Stanford/MIT-- Impossible, your only saving grace is pretty much that you are a URM but since so many people from your school our legacies and what not to Stanford the chances are cut significantly… unless you do research than you may have a good chance AND I would say you need to get a job that extends past the summer
USC- Match
UC’s- Matches, obviously Berkeley will depend A LOT on your essays

Regarding your SAT scores:
SAT II’s are strong
SAT’s are strong too, I understand the concern about CR but it is almost unwarranted so relax
