I made a thread similar a while back ago, but just recently found out UC’s don’t look at superscore so I would like to know my chances at UCLA, UCB, UCSD, and UCD. Applied to Molecular Biology major if that makes a difference.
My highest SAT in one sitting is 1790: 680 M, 570 CR, 540 W
No subject tests
ACT: 26 (not submitting)
Rank: 2 out of 675
Unweighted GPA: 3.98
Weighted GPA 4.00
Extracurricular: Tennis 3 years (2 years in Varsity), Over 100 hours in community service, student tutor, participated in student government and school newspaper.
No major awards.
Have taken 5 AP classes so far, and currently taking 5 senior year so a total of 10 by the time I graduate.
UCLA/UCB: High Reach
UCSD: Reach
UCD: Low Reach/High Match
Great GPA, good EC’s but SAT score will hurt your chances at the top UC’s. Well written essays may boost your chances and I hope you have some safeties on your list. Good Luck.
What is your UC GPA? If its 3.98 then that is considerably low for UCLA/UCB and even UCSD, same with your SAT. I think you could get in to UCD, but you should probably apply to more schools.
If you were admitted into one of the top UC’s, how would you compete and perform in those really difficult classes? Scores from national tests are telling thats why the universities use them as predictors.
Your scores are lower than what most of the accepted students at the UC’s are and can be capable of performing and producing. I see that as a problem. I think that you would be paddling upstream at those schools to begin with, unless you start out strong by pre-reading the texts and going to office hours and to tutors every day.
@aunt bea Yeah I know my scores are lower than the averages, but I’m sure I can handle my way through those schools. It’s just a matter if I’m accepted or not.
I just have to reiterate that you need back-ups/safeties because I know those scores are going to impact your admission. In my opinion, those schools are reaches for you. I hope you applied to SB and SC.
Pretty sure UCs focus on GPA more than Test Scores anyway
I have very similar stats and applied to the same schools so I would say you have a good chance at UCD but the rest will be reaches and based on luck.
