First, GT:

"2013 Freshman Class Profile
Mid-50% GPA: 3.85 - 4.11
Mid-50% SAT: 2000 - 2210
Mid-50% ACT: 29 - 33
Average # of AP/IB/Dual Enrollment classes taken: 6 - 11

These numbers represent the mid-50% ranges (25th-75th percentile) of GPA, SAT, and ACT and average rigor for our most recent entering class and should be considered our competitive ranges."

You can recalculate your GPA as GT’s weighted GPA.

“For students taking AP, IB, or college-level classes, we award an additional one-half point (0.5) for each course. Weight is not added for courses labeled Honors, Gifted, Magnet, etc.”

Based on your unweight GPA, I would think your GPA is a bit on the low side for GT (though still in the middle 50%), Your SAT is likely the same (low middle 50%). Your class rigor and EC’s are fine. So go with High match/low reach.

Now UF:

“Students admitted for the fall 2013 freshman class had an average 4.3 GPA and an average SAT score of 1967.”

UF uses a holistic admission process, 50% is GPA (most important)/Test Scores/Class rigor, the other 50% is ECs/Leadership/Essay.

Your GPA is on the low side of the middle 50%. Your Test Scores are fine, as is class rigor. Your EC’s/Leadership look ok.

It’s going to be important that you do well on the essay, so spend some time on it!

UF is a match/high match.
You have a better chance at UF that GT, but that GPA is still a bit of a worry.

I’m not as familiar with UIUC, but see the following link:

[U of I Admissions: Freshman Admission Requirements](Page Not Found, Illinois Undergraduate Admissions)

For Engineering:

ACT 31 - 34
SAT (R+M only) 1370 - 1490
Class Rank 92% - 99%

It looks like a high match to low reach.

Improving your SAT will help with all of these schools (especially GT and UIUC).

None of these schools are a safety, so you should make sure to pick at least one! For Engineering in Florida, UCF or USF would work, as they both would offer Merit (some folks choose these schools over UF, simply based on the merit $$ and honors college). For an OOS school, look at Auburn and Clemson, both very solid engineering schools that would offer some merit to help take the sting out of the OOS tuition. You can also look at Alabama, where engineering is not as strong, but you’ll likely to qualify for Full Tuition +$, making it as affordable as the in-state schools.

Good Luck!
