This is a brief post. Assuming that I have a 1590 on the SAT, I am chinese, and won 2nd Place at the International Science and Engineering Fair. Have decent grades. Played violin for 3 years in high school. Involved in the clubs, and did an EXTREMELY prestigious internship over the summer (RSI level). Also involved in a club to help students from North Korea. What are my chances for UIUC Computer Sciences?
Addition: not self reporting any ap scores cz was hospitalized, got a 800 on math 2 760 on chemistry. Also top usabo qualifier. Will chance back
Just from objective academic scores and EC, you should have a fair chance. There have been a number of people with similar scores that have been deferred or rejected from CS-Engineering, so it’s definitely NOT a “safety”. There could be over 5000 applicants for just over 200 spots so it is very competitive as a top 5 program. If there is a second major like Computer Engineering that interests you, then you might consider including that in your application just in case. Good luck!
@illinoisx3 I have participated in science fair for the entirety of high school. For the first two years, I was an International Science and Engineering Fair Finalist. During my junior year, I won 2nd Place at the International Fair. Should I be very likely to get in with this background?
I am sorry, I do not know. Subjective factors like EC and Essay are impossible to judge. I have heard that they do regard computer science related EC highly.
