Chances for University of California, UCLA, Others

I am a California resident with a math and reading score of 1330 (770 math, 560 reading). I know my reading sucks as weel as my writing which is a little bit lower than 600. I have seen that writing is not very important for colleges and that reading and math score is what matters more I hope it is correct.

I am applying to my dream schools( UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, MIT, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, CAL Poly) as well as safe schools such as Purdue, Virginia tech, UFA, UT Austin and more.

Do I have great chances of getting in, I think I am doing a great process of applications and I have a lot of extracurricular activities as well as work experience. Also I am a resident but most of my time I did not attend a high school in the US, would they considered that I do not have too much time practicing reading in english and do not use too much my scores.
I am doing TOEFL.

Help me please :’( hope I have chances I improve like 300 or more points in my SAT would it matter?

Why are you doing TOEFL, when you’re a California resident? TOEFL is only for international students who will apply to US universities

Most of my life I went to Mexico to study even though I lived in California ( yes I crossed the border everyday). So I move two years ago to a high school in California to improve my chances of getting into a US university. I am us citizen but my first language is spanish. I do not know if I should do the TOEFL actually, I know just internationals have to do the TOEFL, but since I have been going to mexico to study, I do not practice english  I think I must have to do it as well.

If you improve 300 points, it would help a lot.

Your 1900~ SAT score will make it difficult for admissions into your dream schools, and if you’re applying as an engineering major to the UC’s or Cal States, it’ll be even harder.

Obviously other factors such as GPA, Activities, Recommendation Letters and Essays also play a role so we can’t really chance you right now given the information you have provided.

Have you tried the ACT? @rdeng2614 is right; you need to improve your standardized test scores.

I did awful in my act I got a 23  and math which is my strong area a 28, which is lower than my SAT math. I was planning in taking it this Dec but I haven’t practice too much because I am more in my subject sat test, so I don’t think I am going to do it. My GPA is 4.2, and Unweighted 3.87; I am top 10 of my class.

the UC’s care a lot about writing. they are the reason the college board created the writing section.

With that SAT you only may have a chance (match) for CAL POLY (Pomona but not SLO) and a slim chance for UCSD.

Sorry, but i was like you. Lots of ECs, average scores, and high hopes for college. But my working hard this summer gave me better chances. Get your sat up, get some leadership awards and other good stuff, and write an awesome essay signifying your unique situation.

Honestly, i had the same list as you. I just submitted my UC app today and im doing others right now.

Agree with @uclaparent9. You need to broaden your list to include less High Reach schools and include some Match schools like Mid tier/lower tier UC’s. Too much of a gap between your “safe” schools and the others.
Good luck.

There are several universities in California that would consider your stats for admission. The problem that you have is that your list doesn’t seem to include many CSUs or any privates. Are you a citizen or just a resident? If you need financial aid, you need to consider those options when applying to schools.

I am US citizen I just went to study in Mexico, but I lived in California. I crossed the border everyday to get to school and then comeback. Later on, I decided that I will love to go to California and study so I changed from school.
