I think you have a great shot, I’m a college freshman. Although I don’t attend Notre Dame I got in with honors, so I hope I can help a bit. Good luck!

Can you shed a little light on the class rank? You have a strong unweighted GPA. I’m assuming that means that there are a fair amount of people taking more AP/IB classes. Either that or your school grades fairly easy.

Unless you come from a very strong school that routinely puts kids in the top colleges, I’m concerned that the ACT score and the class rank combo will likely end in denial.

Make sure your essays are top notch. A “passionate” teacher recommendation would probably help a lot.

Thanks
My school is actually very competitive and is known to accept 3 students to Harvard every year due to its well-reputed IB program. My rank seems low because of how many people take IB/AP classes but i take these challenging classes as well. From what I’ve heard top colleges know how competitive my school is so hopefully my rank won’t come to such a disadvantage

Hi violet322 - Please do not put weight when people say things about class rank or GPA!! I see most people here with GPA 4.0 UW – It feels like it is harder to get Halloween candies than GPA 4.0 in many schools! Sad to say that grade inflation seems to be the norm across US - so that teachers and school district gets graded well by the state authorities!Kids that go to top IB programs & magnet schools that stress on minimum of 10 APs suffer because many of these schools where grade inflation is prevalent - they do not offer APs! Reason? - yeah, their grade inflation would be exposed! There are students here who is ranked around 40 in a class around 500 with UW GPA of 4.0!

So do not get worried about knee jerk reactions from people who just dismiss you for GPA or class rank…because most students who post their numbers routinely post 4.o GPA!

Good Luck and hope you get in to to the school of your dreams!

thank you!

With a 3.97 unweighted gpa I can’t imagine class rank would be an issue. It is odd to think that there would be 60 students with even stronger gpa. Notre Dame, while they say they are holistic, does place a lot of emphasis on test scores. I think your chances are very strong with more than sufficient academic rigor and greats ECs.
