-I fly up to Alaska every summer and work on the Polar Lady salmon boat for the entirity of the summer. I am the youngest and only girl on the boat and have worked there for 2 years currently and plan to return this coming summer. Love working there, get to meet people with really interesting stories to tell.

Essays: My UW English teacher thought they were extremely strong, for the UCs one was about my work on the boat and how I never expected special treatment for my lack of skills, and how I worked hard to impove and prove myself. Second essay I related the biotic and abiotic elements of an ecosystem to my experiences in hiking and exploring the wilderness in Alaska and my times in robotics, then related it to my future career aspirations.

Your current SAT places you around the 70th percentile in terms of admitted students, but given that you are out-of-state, that lowers you to around the 60th percentile. I suggest a very compelling reason why UCSD and how it relates specifically to your proposed course of study.

I did cite a few specific UCSD programs I want to be involved in and how they would fit into my future goals in my second UC essay.

I can’t speak for UCSD but I’d be very surprised if you were rejected from UW. In fact, I would suggest you put a reach school or two on your list because I think you can go for it.

My full application list was UW Seattle, Western WA University (safety net), then UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, UC Berkeley. But my dream has always been UCSD.
