Chances for UPenn, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, CMU, Cornell, Michigan, more.

Hi! I applied/will be applying to the following schools. If you can give me a fair estimate on my chances for each, I’d really appriciate it.

CMU: ED, EE
Georgia Tech: EA, EE
U of Michigan: EA, CS
Notre Dame: EA, CS
Cornell: RD, EE
Binghamton: RD, CS
RPI: RD, CS
UPenn: RD, EE

I know these are very competitve schools for my stats, though my guidance counselor insisted that I apply.

My school does not do unweighted GPA’s. We only are shown weighted, on a 4.5 scale, in which I have a 4.4. This is about a 94.3% average. I did calculations, and I have around a 3.7 unweighted on the traditional scale. I did poorly Freshman year (3.3) but I was able to pull it up Sophomore (3.8) and Junior (3.9) year. I am ranked top 15% of a very competitive public HS, that is nationally ranked.

My ACT score is a 35. I took it a total of 3 times, first 31, then 33, and finally a 35. I never once had a tutor for the ACT, or any class in general. I have a 36 superscore

I took 3 SAT II tests. I scored an 800 on Math II, an 800 on U.S History, and a 770 on Physics.

I have only completed 2 AP Classes, both which I scored a 5 on (AP European History and AP Physics 1). I am taking AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, APUSH, and AP Physics C currently. I have recieved A’s in each for the 1st semester.

I would consider my EC’s to be above average. I have founded the STEM Club and the Mathletes club, both of which have seen big amounts of sucess. I am the treasurer of the speech team, and I have been a member for 3 years. This summer, I interned at Yelp, doing some computer related stuff. I have held a consistent job over the last 4 years, and have a lot of community service, including being part of the volunteering club.

Income wise, I am definetly on the low bracket. My family makes between 50-65k, and I live in a very wealthy town in upstate NY. I am a questbridge prep scholar. In my application, I explained my financial struggles and the correlation to my 9th grade deficit. I believe all my essays were very creative, along with recomendations.

Thank you everyone!

I currently attend the University of Michigan, so I can only speak to that with my experience–

Because you are from out of state it is a bit more competitive to get into Michigan… but your quantitative sections of your application (GPA, ACT, etc) and ECs are very strong. As long as your essays were good and showed why you were passionate about going to Michigan and studying CS, I think you have a 90% chance of getting in!

Best of luck and I hope to see you around campus next year  !

FYI you can’t apply to Notre Dame Early if you applied ED somewhere else…

Yeah my fault, I meant to put RD for Notre Dame and Michigan
