Chances for UT Austin?

I have a low rank, my GPA should be around 3.0-3.2 after first semester senior year. I’m excellent in essay writing, I’ve won awards for that, and am very highly involved. I have probably 300+ volunteer hours right now and will have more. I have a job teaching swimming to young kids as well.

SAT: 1970 (Old sat)
ACT: Haven’t taken it yet but I want a score in the high 30’s, I’m pretty sure I can do it
Rank: Top 40% of class due to low grades in math and science freshman and sophomore years, it should go up after this year (junior year) and next year. Class rank is in the 200’s out of 525

I’m not too sure which schools I want to apply for but I’ve had pretty good grades in pre-AP computer science 1, AP computer science and I’m currently in Honors Computer science 3. I also plan to take AP computer principles, a new class next year. So maybe UNS?

I’ve had a very rigorous courseload bar math. I took regular chemistry and physics, but pre-AP biology and am currently in AP biology. I’ve taken AP classes since sophomore year and have gotten 4’s and 5’s on AP exams.

If I retake SAT and score high or score high on the ACT, as well as increase my GPA, which will in turn increase my rank, will I have a chance at UT Austin? Or even the PACE program at UT? I could do CAP, but I think I’d rather go to UH for four years if that’s the case.

Please help me! I’ve been studying hard for SAT and ACT, what scores should I get in order to offset my low class rank?

I just really want to go to UT, I don’t want to go to school so close to home, UH. It’s cheaper but my parents have had college funds for my sister and I for a long time, so we won’t need loans.

I want to get a degree in computer science with premed track and then work in computer science for a year in California to establish residency. And then I’d like to go to medical school there. Sure, I’m planning ahead but even if I don’t get into UT Austin then I’ll work super hard at UH to make it happen.

What is UH? University of Houston? If you live in state and end up 10% of your class then auto admit. If you are getting your grades up now and admissions sees your transcripts you might have a shot. Are you interested in CS or Engineering?

UT Austin has formula for incoming students, it will be helpful for them to “solve” the formula to predict on how well you will do at UT Austin.

Also you sound like you are more interested in UH. Are you sure you want to apply to UT Austin?

Sorry to tell you this, and it is going to sound really harsh but unless you are an URM your chances of CS in UT Austin are next to zero. Your scores will not be able to compensate for that low of a rank even if they are perfect. And if you are ORM, God help you

UT is notorious for relying heavily on class rank and then using race to admit URM’s if they don’t qualify into impacted majors and CS is one such major.

If you are ORM, you have to be in the top Five percent with a 2200 plus in old SAT or a 34 in ACT to be competitive for CS at UT. Otherwise you will be Capped.

75% of people admitted into UT are from the auto-admit, which means top 7%. Computer Science is one of the hardest majors to get into for UT, so your chances aren’t so good. You would have a better chance of getting into Texas A&M. However, I know how vastly different UT and A&M are. If you’re not interested in A&M, you could apply to UT Dallas.
UH is a good school, so it’s not a terrible choice if you choose to attend. I think you would have fun at UH, they
